So much happened in 1960. We elected our first Catholic president. This guy got out of the Army. Oh, and I was born. That hardly shook the world,
but that’s what I’m celebrating this month with this countdown of songs that are now 65. Let’s salute this guy who got out of the Army.
#7: Didja Ever - Elvis Presley
From the “six degrees of Jim Reeves” department, a story about Elvis getting out of the Army: the first thing he wanted to do was a recording session, but fans would have been aware of that. Sooo…RCA tagged the first recording session that Elvis did post-Army as a Jim Reeves session to throw off the fans and the press.
Now, let’s talk about this song. G.I. Blues is probably my favorite Elvis soundtrack. There are lots of great songs on it, so picking just one to highlight is tough. I picked this humorous little ditty about having a Monday of a day because we’ve all had days like this. In fact, last year when I went to Dallas, my best friend left her phone at the restaurant. We discovered that when we were at Buc-ee’s, so we went back to the restaurant…listening to this song.
The entire album is great. I barely remember the movie itself (I know he sang “Wooden Heart” to some hand puppets), but I can’t forget the soundtrack!

LOL. There are two types of people in the world: people who’ve had “one of them days” and people who lie.

I would peg your taste in Elvis as being more Costello than Presley.
