Boring Day

Woke up with my lower left hip/back area in severe pain. Been hurting for a couple of days...but this morning was unbearable. Fixed my oatmeal and coffee, but had Tom take me to the ER. Spent 7 hours with xrays and a PA that obviously didn't listen to me. My SPINE does not hurt...I have bad pain on the left side just above my hip..in the back AND the front area. I feared it might be my kidney or my Hip. But she kept telling me I had fractures in my spine. Might be true, but does not hurt. Spine area has NO PAIN. Anyway, I was waiting on an MRI, which I wasn't real happy about getting. Waited 2 hours and finally told the PA that I didn't want the MRI there, I would get a doctor to order one tomorrow. She made me wait for a back brace which did NOTHING for the area that hurts. So sick of doctors and wanna Be doctors that do NOT listen to what you tell them! There were 2 other paients raising hell because the doctor wanted to treat something that they didn't come in to have treated. ..Truthfully! Anyway, I finally got home..finally had something to drink after 7 hours of not even water. Yes...I am ranting... Having leftover Gyros tonight. Had Meatloaf last night.

In pain and seven hours of starving... sorry you had to go through all this. They are professionals and I am sure that they know their best and are doing their best. But then having listening ears to patients and acknowledging it is so assuring and important. They should learn that to build human connection and trust. How are you feeling now? Sending positive thoughts and prayers.

@Ghostlady Oh! Sorry about that. How about some general OTC painkiller? Will that help? Have they given anything for pain other than the back support that you mentioned.

@arunima25 They offered Hydrocodone, but that stuff makes me throw up. I have been taking IBprofen 800mg tablets for years when I just can't stand pain. Do not take it often, but have it when I DO need it. She was concerned since I take blood thinners, but Tylenol has Aspirin in it which IS a blood thinner, Plus Tylenol is bad for your liver. Anyway, I will get thru the weekend. Tom is now fully retired and can help me over the weekend.

When you go to the E.R. they try not to miss anything. And, there's such a thing as radaing pain. Meaning the injury could've been in your spine, but feel like it's coming from elsewhere. Er. staff are supposed to rule out the most serious to the least. A spinal injury could possibly be more serious then say a kidney stone.

I totally understand, but still no xray was taken of my hip only my mid and lower back. I guess I might have been more patient if I actually talked to an orthopedic doctor which I will call in the morning.

@kaylachan Have no problem with nurses, just PAs that do not listen.

What a terrible day you had. Doctors that won't listen really are the worst.
