Crazy memories from 17 years ago today

Yes this would have been my 17th wedding anniversary if I was still married. Best wedding ever. It is a shame that I'm no longer married but my ex and I still love each other very much and are in each other's lives so at least there is that. I haven't been thinking much about the actual wedding but just some funny things that happened that day. I got married on the beach at the condo complex we were staying at in Cozumel, Mexico. It was low-key and perfect for us. --My mother was all stressed out (unlike me) even after she had like 2 margaritas and 2 Xanaxes. My uncle (her brother) pushed all of her buttons until she just exploded on him and wrapped up her rant with "you can kiss my @ss in Macy's window and I'll give you 5 minutes to draw a crowd!". I had never heard that phrase before but apparently it is a thing around here and something my grandfather would say. She then followed that up by doing a backdive off of the dock into the ocean. -- The bridal party lost the photographer. He got into the elevator and the doors closed before we could join him. My cousin and I were yelling "Nacho!" (nickname for Ignacio) --Literally the best wedding cake ever. It was an ice cream cake with coconut ice cream on top and chocolate on the bottom with the requisite cookie crumbs in between. It was ICED with buttercream icing! We were all amazed by it. It is good that we can still look back and laugh at those moments. My good friend who went through a divorce at the same time cannot and I am sad for her.

That sounds absolutely amazing. I doubt I’m ever married, but I hope if I were, it would be as memorable as that. I’m grinning thinking of my stepmom saying *ss. So glad you have those memories.

That's low key?? What's formal to you? I'm sorry things didn't work out for you two.

That's low-key? MINE was low-key! My first wife and I (and actually my second marriage, too) went to the courthouse and asked a judge to marry us... We each took a friend so they could be witnesses for us. Then we went home and partied...

We got married by a judge too. Just in Mexico on the beach at sunset.

Well at least you have the memories and of course plenty of photos. It is best to find things that can amuse us to keep from memories becoming sad.

Happy 17th anniversary! Even though your marital status has changed, it sounds like you have some truly wonderful and hilarious memories from your wedding day. It's a testament to the kind of celebration it was that you can still laugh so heartily about those moments.

I always wondered why you two never got back together. Is your relationship a better relationship now than when you were married.

It is different because we obviously don't see each other every day or even every week. He has had girlfriends though we don't discuss it. We still love each other. I would get back together with him in a heartbeat. He is here for me when I need help since my dad is gone now. It isn't normal but it works for us.

@NJChicaa you would get back together with him? Then why not now?

@NJChicaa Yes indeed. I think on a previous incarnation I talked to you asking much the same question I asked here. My.memory isn't so good now. If it works, it doesn't need fixing. That's a good thing

Over the years you have posted some really great stories of that trip to Mexico and how much fun it was. I am glad that although you no longer are married, you are still very close.

I've been to Cozumel 11 times. Our wedding was the 1st time but we returned every spring break and then I was there alone with family after we separated. It was incredibly difficult to be where we got married on our wedding anniversary. I love that place though.
