So, some young guy who was wearing an ensemble from a pest control place wanted to know if I needed any sprAying indoors or out. No Thanks, if I wanted that I would call somebody I just thought it was interesting he was segwaying around the neighborhood. It must have been a bumpy ride. I had another guy come up here just the day before yesterday saying he did tree surgery, limb tri.ming etc. I am not a fan of people just showing up at the house unannounced. I feel a little vulnerable here, and don't particularly like strangers showing up at the door. I'm repeating it for emphasis

To do what? I rarely fully open the door. I wish I had a peephole. Maybe, I will look into a ring doorbell cam.

If I do not know the person, I will not answer the door. I can always talk to them through the door camera as well. I am just cautious, I feel we have to be now. Yes, invest in some type of doorbell camera if you can.

I'm not happy when complete strangers show up at our house. I am not a fan of friends showing up uninvited, either.
They should know most people will call for services when they need them.

@snowy22315 Yeah, I understand but I wonder how often they actually find someone who is willing to hire them like that?

@snowy22315 We had a bad ice storm in 2015 that took the limbs off of a lot of the trees here and the city council decided that only licensed tree trimmers were allowed to do any work in the city limits. Most people just left the stripped trees standing since we couldn't cut them down ourselves or risk getting fined. We had a huge pine tree in the yard at our last house and the "pine pole" as everyone started calling it is still standing in the yard there.

It's a turn off to me, when people just show up like that.

I do not blame you being scared of strangers knocking on your door since they could be trying to rob you.

I tried to go on one of those Segway things and it didn't go well.
As for people turning up unannounced, I don't like it either. Thankfully it does not happen often.

The Segway one interests me - it's quite a novel method of transport and I thought that they might become popular here but I haven't seen anyone using on in years.
Replaced by those awful E- Scooters no doubt

I like finding the people myself by calling around and getting the best deal.

Just now
I'm not fussed about unexpected tradesmen turning up.
