My niece got carded in her field hockey game this morning

Oh boy. She is almost 11 but plays on a team of 14 year olds because she is that good. My sister just texted me that she was carded today. I'm assuming it was a yellow card which is a warning and not an ejection. I asked her what for and she said "I think elbowing". Field hockey is not a contact sport so I get it. I am not competitive. I mean I was back when I played but I also had a sense of good sportsmanship. I was the same as a coach. I always told my players that I wouldn't be upset if they lost but I would be if they embarrassed themselves with unsportsmanlike conduct. My sister is a very different animal. She seems fine with her daughter getting carded. I wasn't there to see what happened so I can't judge but if my niece really did elbow an opponent I would be ripping her a new one. Having good character is more important than winning. I believe that in all aspects of life.
