When I went to feed Kitty this morning, I noticed that her water bowl was almost dry. I put a handful of dry food in her dish and grabbed the water bowl to fill it up. On the way back to her dining room, I passed my desk. I was thinking about something else and put the water bowl on my desk where my ash tray usually lives. After about three minutes I realized that I had put Kitty's water bowl on my desk, and left her high and dry. I rectified the situation. Let me hear it: "Glad I've never done anything like that."

Oh, I almost filled Kitty’s water bowl yesterday…forgot I was running dish water in the sink. (No, it didn’t overflow…the mountain of suds was ample warning before the sink got too full.)

Did you attack the suds with a broom, like Woody Allen in Sleeper?

@TheHorse — no. Didn’t do the Ann-Margaret thing in Tommy, either.

that is rather amusing, Glad you did not realize that while flicking an ash or perhaps left the ashtray for Kitty. The best thing I remember was the time my husband could not find his glasses to read. Finally, I asked what do you remember doing while you still had the glasses. He said filling glasses with ice, Sure enough the glasses were in the freezer. Took out the ice tray left a deposit

Glad I have never left anything in the freezer. Except when I did.

It could have been worse... you could have put water in the ashtray and put that down for poor Kitty to drink out of.

We're due to go to our niece's after lunch and she has already emailed saying we'll need to do small adjustments on the guinea pig's water bottle. I hope I don't forget.

Guinea pig? Water bottle?

It's a long time since I used an ash tray- not allowed to smoke in the house at all. I smoke at the back door and stub them out and put them in a wheelie bin. At least it did not take you very long to realise what you had done. Would Kitty have found it on your desk?

She gives my desk an inspection now and again. But I think not.

@Ineeddentures They are blessed. Kitty threatens to visit the toilet when I forget to freshen up her water.

@TheHorse Our cats only had a drink from their water fountain. They wouldn't drink from bowls. When we adopted them they were dropped off with this great big electric driven thing like Niagra falls. It kept the water fresh and cool and surprisingly clean.

At least you didn't give her the ashtray.

Ahhh, that poor cat. She puts up with so much. I am always reminding the kids to be sure the cats have fresh water.

The cat of my neighbors wanted to drink the water from the jar while I was pouring into the bowl. He was so cute doing this.
