The continuation of the roadside service

The first call center agent I talked to did not do English well. He also did not seem able to read a map, even when he had the state, county, and zip code for us. We did a three way call with Bob, even. Each person I talked to wanted to know what number exit he was at. These are two or four lane highways, not Interstate. They do not have exit numbers or exits. The person who routed my call had an accent, but gave me her name and I understood her perfectly well. Actual agent who was dispatching a tow had a different accent, and just did not seem to have the needed skills. When I had given him locations, and reference points and zip codes he was convinced we were in Ardmore, Oklahoma--five hours and 350 miles from where we actually are. We were going to have to pay upfront, over $2000. What!? No way. He sent me to customer service, who then routed me to a person who said my phone was breaking up. So he redialed me. This person was very satisfactory, could read the map, see the landmarks I gave him, and was calling out to find a service. I made sure to get his name so that when the company asks, I will be able to give him a positive review. However no one ever actually got dispatched through the insurance. Instead, someone must have called in my husband's tags and the called him on his phone. They pulled the county sheriff into the mix. It turns out that three towing companies refused the call. (It probably was not going to pay enough. Or maybe our insurance is slow paying, who knows?) The Sheriff's department located a towing service truck that was just south of where we live, heading in the direction of their home base and they would need to go right past Bob. They willingly picked up the car, the sheriff drove Bob home because there was no room in the tow truck. We did pay up front $118.23. They e mailed me a receipt, the insurance will pay us. They would not leave until they were sure the receipt came through in our e mail.Great customer service. Bob knows it is a fuel problem. He will be able to fix it. It might just be low on gas and was driving in a hilly area. Or the fuel line is clogged. This is a long post. It would be funny if it was not so tiring.

I know we have a couple two componies on speed dial if we ever broke down. I don't know if this is an insurance thing, or a State Farm thing, but we do have to pay out-of-pocket up front for the tow, but they file with insurance and we get paid back.

It may be Covid changed everything, not sure why. In the past we had repairs done or towing done, they submitted the claim and billed us afterwards for anything not covered.

I'm just glad Bob got home safely last night and the car isn't still sitting beside the road somewhere. I hope Bob gets the car fixed and it doesn't leave him stranded again.

@GardenGerty Poor Bob! I did that once by accident, too. I felt silly afterwards but was glad AAA brought me some and didn't charge me for it. It's included in the contract I signed with them.

I hate dealing with insurance companies for a tow. Glad the sheriff got him home

I was willing to come get him, but the sheriff was there I guess making sure he was fine. It was only 7 miles. I think this towing company and our sheriff deserve a lot of thanks.

I'm glad he finally got someone, and that it was a positive outcome. I dislike getting even those reps with accents. I get nervous, and so even a slight accent can be hard for me to understand.
