Nashville residents comedian Lydia Popovch and Goat Song Records comedy label owner Dan Dion have started a petition to rename Nashville Airport in honor of singer and actress Dolly Parton due to her success in show business as well as her work of giving back to her community.
The number of persons signing the petition to rename the Nashville Airport is over 50,000 signatures.
I hope that the airport will be renamed in honor of Dolly Parton since she paid her dues in show business.

I would sign it, but I'm in Idaho. I hope they put her name on it.

You are right since Dolly earned her right to have an airport named in her honor.

It would be good to be landing at Dolly Parton airport, of that there is no doubt.
She has achieved much and given much back and if anyone deserves recognition in this manner, Dolly does.
So I hope they take notice of the petition and rename the airport Dolly Parton.

This might sound good in the short term, but after a millennia has passed, named places are out of date, and who will remember someone, a hundred, or more, years from now. I prefer nondescript names myself.

I'm not sure how I feel about naming airports something other than their city name. Our airport for 100 years was Staniford Field but now it's Muhammad Ali International Airport. It takes some getting used to

That is true since Moisant Field in Kenner Louisiana is now named Louis Armstrong International Airport.
