Along with the celebration of songs that are now 60 years old I’m celebrating the songs that came out the year I did, 1960. Some of these songs look a lot better at 65 than I do. Here’s one of the most enduring acts of the 50s and early 60s for today’s song. #3: When Will I Be Loved - Everly Brothers And what do you know, it’s NOT a Felice & Boudleaux song! No, Phil Everly wrote this song, giving the Bryants a beak from their long string of hit songs they wrote that the Everlys made classics. This song has been a top ten hit twice. Coincidentally, both years it was a hit are being celebrated for my birthday this year. The second time was 1975 (next month’s celebratory year), when Linda Ronstadt took the song to #2. The 1960 Everly Brothers original peaked at #8. No, Linda’s version isn’t on the list next month (although I had to check to see if it was ). But you can’t go wrong with either rendition! When Will I Be Loved Written by Phil Everly Recorded by the Everly Brothers From The Fabulous Style of the Everly Brothers, 1960 It happens every time:

He probably originally wrote it as “when won’t I be loved.”

This doesn’t get the popularity that “Bye Bye Love” and “All I Have to Do is Dream” did.

Hubby and I both knew song and artist and liked it and sang along. He says Linda Ronstadt made it famous, he says her version was more country and more popular.

He’s right. The Everlys’ version never made the country chart. And they’re in the Country Music Hall of Fame, go figure.
