Man drove straight through a day care facility today.

You may or may not have heard about this terrible tragedy today. A man in Chatham, IL. (very close to Springfield, IL.) drove in to the yard of a day care facility. There are 4 children dead, and 6 more in the hospital, at least that's what I have been able to decipher from news articles and our local station, which covers Springfield. The driver? He isn't hurt..of course. He drove in the building through a wall, and drove out the other side of the building. They haven't released much more info than that for now. Somehow I hope it was a complete and total accident, and not on purpose, but these days, hey...we never know, do we? The pain of this type of action is forever, those who died, those who were hurt, parents and siblings and loved ones of those now gone...and more than likely, those who survived will have a very hard time wondering why they are still here, when others are not. I just can't even imagine the terror they felt. This is very close to where my oldest son lives with his family.

How did he do that and like not kill himself in the process?

I have no idea. They have released absolutely no information yet on the driver, except to say he was unhurt. I suppose there is a CHANCE it could be an accident...but to me that seems unlikely.

@MarieCoyle No.... it couldn't be an accident. You don't accidently drive through a building.

@kaylachan A few years ago, a middle age fellow drove his car straight in to a local store. His brakes completely failed, according to investigators. A few people badly hurt but no deaths. And about twenty years ago, a man my Dad was good friends with had a massive coronary and ran a stop sign, landing in a family’s living room. So there’s that…but this guy never stopped, he drove straight through the building.

I hadn’t heard about this at all, just the man who drove into a crowd the other night in Vancouver. That’s so tragic.

It just rips me up inside to think about it. Just kids, playing on a spring day.

What was the idea of that? Those kids were sitting ducks.

I have no idea. Hopefully the authorities will find out why he did it, and all such things needed for an investigation. What does it prove when people do these shootings? I know mental illness is a real thing.

That is just beyond sad. I do hope it was a terrible accident and not a deliberate act.

I think I saw on it on ABC World News Tonight. It is sobering that life can end at any moment these days.

Yes, it was picked up by the main news sources as well. It just makes my heart hurt so much, thinking of the loss of the young lives.

That's terrible. Maybe the driver was old or intoxicated.

Originally, it was reported on our news as a man in a black truck. From what I have been able to discover so far by checking back, it was a woman in a black Jeep. I did see a picture of the woman with police and she was handcuffed, however she was taken to the hospital and there is no new update yet. And yes, beyond terrible!

That's terrible, when you go to work or take your children to some activity you expect to be home again at the end of the day, so sad.
