Oh, so you don’t like the country music, huh? Well, here’s something that will cure your headache from country music. I frequently put this disclaimer in for anyone who stumbled over this because they got up at some ridiculous hour of the morning like I did: YES, I do have BOTH a 1960 country song and a 1965 soul song on my iPod. Plus a lot more weird stuff where that came from.
Happy 60th birthday to this song.
#2: Rescue Me - Fontella Bass
Fontella Bass was not a one-hit wonder, in the strict definition (only one top 40 hit). She did have two other songs that made the pop top 40. But this is the song that she’s remembered for.
And why not: this is a KILLER R&B song. You had two kinds of soul music in the 60s: the smooth, polished R&B of Motown, and the gritty sounds from other labels like Stax and Chess. (This was on a subsidy label of Chess, called Checkers. Cute!
)
Here’s another one of those songs (like yesterday’s “When Will I Be Loved”) that I actually heard first from Linda Ronstadt. There’s a live version of it on her Linda Ronstadt album (with her backing band at the time, now known as the Eagles), and it’s a rockin’ ditty. But for the pure soul of the song, let Fontella rescue you.
Rescue Me
Written by Carl Smith and Raynard Miner
Recorded by Fontella Bass
From The New Look, 1965
Can’t you see that I’m lonely:

I like all sorts of music, including country. (But I don't like rap or heavy metal or stuff like that). More recently I've been getting more into classical and opera.

I have, too! I’ve been enjoying Rainer Hersch’s classical comedy and started enjoying the pieces without the humor.

@FourWalls Very good! I've recently purchased several classical music CDs and several of opera. I've also got some books about opera and I've been reading up on the plots!

Love, love, love this song. Hubby and I were singing it. We knew the song. Not the artist.
