Ignorance Reigns Supreme.

I've only been on MyLot for two/three weeks. I'll admit that even in that short amount of time, a lot of the more ignorant discussions were taken care of. At least, they're not filling up the Hot Topic list anymore. The ignorant discussions may be gone, but the people are still galloping through the site in massive hordes!
Today I started a very serious discussion about my personal life. A fire broke out in our chimney this morning, and while thankfully it was put under control in time by the fire department, and nobody, and nothing here was hurt. It was still a very serious situation. I had decided to share the discussion with people, to warn them about a serious, and quite unknown problem of how chimney fires start. Something that I think more people should be aware of!
And what do I get?!
Ignorant, comments that have absolutely nothing to do with the discussion that I had started! Wishing me luck on getting my pay out money from MyLot, telling me they have "No Idea". What does any of this have to do about a serious discussion on chimney fires?! If you have NOTHING to say about the discussion, if you're not even going to take the time to READ the discussion- Then don't REPLY to the discussion!

Very true! I have just participated in a discussion titled:"meaning of subjective and objective".
A guy who posted a response before me says: "ummm....not interested in this."
Now, why should this guy go to the trouble of posting such a stupid 'response'???
By the way, I liked your reference to the truckloads of guys joining mylot as:
........ but the people are still galloping through the site in massive hordes!.....................
It has a Wodehousian touch! If you were with me now, you would see me rolling on the ground with laughter!
You would have given me a greater fit of laughter had you used the words: 'mad, chaotic, aimlessly, purposelessly' !

I've just got up from that fit of laughter, after reading your 'first paragraph'!
I appreciate the gravity of your personal problem that you were contemplating when the 'chimney fire' started, and also your bewilderment at the type of responses you had to cope with!
As for me, you have already got the point. I give more respect to the style of presentation rather than the content, and I have given you the words that had caught my attention. Nice seeing people with some really good sense of expression!

I shall have to remember that string of words for the next time I go on a rant. In all honesty, I find myself perplexed by such situations. If a discussion does not interest you, then just move on to the next, there are so many to choose from. Why waste the authors time, and those who want to read its time. Though more often than random answers, I get the old:
This to long for me read.
Okay, so right off the bat you've told me that you didn't even read my discussion. You just felt the need to reply, at let me know that? Well, from that comment alone, I'm quite sure I wouldn't have been interested in what they had to say if the post was small enough to please them. And here I go getting on another rant, I should really stop that now...

yes, i have seen many yes and no replies, and i thought we were ment to be getting paid for the replies, sometimes i think Mylot should go over the replies when paying people and whoever does not answer like you know what i mean, well they dont get the money for it. or just get a warning at first. thats my opinion

Thank you, Emisle. I've been giving negative ratings at this point as well, though only for the ones that really just do not make any sense at all to me. I hate doing that, because I don't like feeling like a bad person. But really, you can only take so much of the same stuff before you finally have to draw a line in the sand. I'm very happy that MyLot has helped put a damper on that problem.

I have seen a number of sites such as this one come and go over the years for this very reason. Fortunately, the owners here are obviously taking steps to correct this, which the other sites did not.
It is sad that so many people abuse sites like this.

Hi
You are absolutely CORRECT
The reason is because of the new guidelines from www.mylot.com
We have a SERIOUS AMOUNT of CHEATERS on this site, who seem to think that by typing rubbish they are gonna get paid!!
My self and few other people have been noticing it more and more just lately!!
Therefore..... I have started a dicussion and I am trying to stop it....

What an intense job that must be for you, following such people all over the site. Well, I suppose it really isn't that hard. You'd just have to go to their profile, and then discussions that they've responded to section. But still, that's an awful lot of hard work. I hope it pays off for you in the end, by helping you, help MyLot, get rid of some of the people who obviously are not here for the reasons they should be. If I see any others, you can be sure I'll slip the note your way.

I'm going to have to agree with you there on this one. Ignorance is all around us. Hell, I'm guilty of sucha thing from time to time. Hell, I'm being ignorant right now by going on a tangent about ignorance. Woot.
But anyways....You must realize Wynnifer, that ignorance is the most common form of conversation this nation has. America would not be itself without ignorance. There's not a chance that us more intellegent people wouldn't be in charge if the masses weren't stupid, ignorant buffoons. I mean...come on.....We elected Bush.....x.x

People as a group are horribly ignorant when it comes to most things in life. Fear of the unknown, falling into step with everyone else to fit int, etc. But I absolutely refuse to get lumped into that little "we" of yours. Because I most certainly did not vote for Bush. Either time! And speaking of Bush, what kills me is the fact that everyone was complaining about him, and how he was handling things. So what do they do? Re-Elect him! Grahhh, now I'm not saying that the other guy would have been any better, I wasn't too thrilled with the thought of him either. But you can't complain about Bush, behind his back, but support him when he looks in your direction because that Ladies and Gentleman of America, makes you a *Mutters several un-ladylike, censored words.* But that's all I'll say about that.

i agree. its hard to have serious discussions here. i think they should make a special "serious discussion' section or something. i dont mean anything by it but alot of responses i've seen arent written in clear english. they seem to be by people who are from other non english speaking countries perhaps. I dont have an objections to that, its just hard to understand sometimes. maybe thats contributing to the senseless posts as well.

That's a very good idea, have you ever thought about submitting this suggestion to one of the MyLot staff members? I'm not saying that they'll listen, or even give you the time of day... but I'm sure that they wouldn't mind getting a few reasponable suggestions such as that one. Still, then it comes to how do you weed out the serious discussions from the, I'm just here for the pennies, ones?

One would think so, but it seems many around here cannot grasp that simple principle. If they have nothing to say, then don't say anything.

Thank you for the tips/hints, I will continue to try to do these sort of things. Typically, that's what I do. But when it just continues to happen, and on such a serious topic, one tends to get a little... pissy, and I had to rant.

i've seen some in other posts i've responded to. these are people just trying to get money and not even reading what their posting to. these go along with the copiers and other people who probably just paste their responese (the same thing) into every response. if it makes you feel any better you can negativly rate them and remember they don't get much money for nonsense responses.

Thank you for the giggle, I most definitely found myself in need of one. You're quite right, all we can really do is point the moderators in the right direction, and hope that something is done.

i do observe that also. some really dont know the real objective of myLot. all they want is to earn money and nothing more. i hope fun will be the number aim of all the member her and second money. cause if yur having fun in this site in no time you'll find yourself earnign money. i'll be happy to have small number of responses that has quality than lots of responses that doesnt mean a thing.

Ugh, I hate that.
I also hate the 'you might not think this has anything to do with your topic but [insert random quote here]'. Clearly, tossing up a random quote with a disclaimer is supposed to make us think they read the topic title.
Fact is, people are stupid and don't pay attention. They just want their money. At least the people posting tiny answers won't get rewarded for it, and you can report the ones who post off topic.

Well, at least they're trying to make themselves look like the intelligent/philosophical sort of penny pinchers? I've actually never had that one happen to me yet, though now that you've brought it to my attention I'm sure it'll happen all of the time now. ^_^

Sorry to hear about your chimney fire - blessings that you didn't do too much damage. I too had a chimney fire. Our slow burner fireplace must have had a build up of goodness-knows-what in it and of course it happened when I was the only one at home.
The fire place started belching smoke and the only thing I could think to do was wet some towels and put them over where the smoke was coming out, shovel the embers from the fire into the wheelbarrow and frantically call my husband back from the local pub. It was probably pointless calling the fire brigade since we were out in the country. Luckily everything was alright, but I dread to think of all the things that could have gone wrong ...
Black smoke on the ceiling was preferable to no ceiling at all!I have been reading through some of the comments on other discussions with interest. I have decided to try to ignore the "ignorant". I suppose there will always be people with a minimal grasp of reading and writing; some do their best, others just wear their lack of basic learning with pride.
We do need to get away from the equivalent of caveman like grunts on these discussions. I wonder if there's some sort of editing tool for these forums that block out one word responses?Julie

Yes, that is annoying and frustrating. Whenever someone makes a stupif reply in my discussion, I give them a negative rating. And I don't usually reply to them either. The people that are cheating the system and being ignorant will get what they deserve soon enough. And what makes it even more annoying is some of those people are actually complaining because they aren't making enough money on here. Hmm, I wonder why...

I've started giving negative marks when a reply is completely off topic. Sometimes I reply, sometimes I don't. It really just depends on what sort of mood I'm in when I see it. I do agree with you that they'll get what they deserve in the near future... I've also noticed a lot of posts from people complaining about their near earrnings rate, only to go back through their discussions, and have it all make perfect sense to me.

Yes a lot of people do that but they will have a big surprise from mylot who changed the earnings algoritm and now after a hard day of ignorant coments They will find out that they earned absolutly nothing and taht is was totaly not worthed. Sory to hear about your chimney, I'm very glad everything worked out ok. Hope is not cold at your place right now and you can still use the chimney.

Thank you, luckily enough they told us that we could use our woodstove still. Since the fire was caught and foamed in time. I'm quite glad for that, since it's only in the 20's here tonight. We didn't want to start a fire at all after this morning, but when you're sitting in the living room, able to see your breath, and break ice cicles off of your fingertips. There's not much choice.

yeah i agree, some of them dont even knw how to write proper english, so stupid, but mylot's rule prohibits us from tellin them anytin, some of the discussion's are so stupid, that it's not funny, it just get's on my nerves, even their responses are stupid, since they dont know how to write a proper response, they become spammers, they just copy and paste other's responses!!!

Hi Virginians, I am sorry to hear about your bad replies to a serious post. Trust me it has happened to me also on a few occasions. But luckily, one or two of my posts I received really interesting comments and a debate started about a serious topic. And that was really rewarding to me. So please , my advice, ignore the topics that dont hit the bulls eye, keep posting. PS. Maybe you could also upload a picture to your post in the future, that also attracks more serious chat-o-holics! Good luck!

Ignorent users that dont pay attention to the topic at hand and just post a few words in a comment for money should be banned from the website. But we cannot do anything about them, as im pretty certain that they are as you said, stampeding through the website in hordes.
On a lighter note, Im sorry that your chimney set on fire, i hope that everythings going fine for you.

Yes, everything is going quite fine with us. Thank you for your concern. I do agree with you, but when sites like this, start to give away money. It's always going to pull in the wrong crowd who try to find an easy way to do it. I just hope that as MyLot continues to grow and update, they'll find more solutions. They seemed to have done a great job with their last effort. Still, even MyLot isn't powerful enough to fight against as much crap as they've been facing lately. From so many different groups of people on here. Be it the one worders, the long winders, the debaters. They have a lot on their plate.
