Be Honest, Would you have stopped?

My son counted over 300 cars that passed us today as we were fixing a flat tire in the pouring rain. There was ONE saintly person who stopped. I don’t think 1 in 300 is a very good participation rate. I wonder what goes through our heads when we encounter a situation like I was in earlier today. I’m as guilty as the next person for having passed motorists in distress when I’m cruising down a highway. What reasons go through your head? My usual list of excuses seems pretty shallow after it was me who was caught in the rain. My question to you mylotters is , would you have stopped?

I have changed tires before. It would be very difficult for me to do that now as one of my legs doesn't work well. Long story. Plus, I am an older woman alone, most of the time. I think my kids might scold me for a year if I stopped on the interstate to change someone's tire...unfortunately, I can't do that. I am sorry that happened to you.

Its all good, was a bit stressful. I had a flat in my trailer tire but had to unload my quad first on the side of the highway to then jack it up on a busy highway in the rain, it sucked lol

@BACONSTRIPSXXX I think that there may be a law that tires do not go flat on a busy highway unless it is pouring down rain or there is a blizzard!

I probably would not have stopped. I would have wondered why you did not call for road service as "everybody" has a cell phone these days. I would, however, have gone to a police call box or sheriff, or whatever. Something happened to my husband, but not the tire, it was a fuel problem. Even our insurance could not get someone out for him in the rain. However a passing motorist went to the sheriff, who got him help.

I don't drive, so the only way somebody will need my help if if they are at my house or I'm a passenger in their car. I can change a tire just haven't done it in a lot of years.

Not if it seemed like the situation was under control. I think people might be more likely to stop if it was a woman by herself trying to change a tire in the rain Also, in a more rural areas you would probably find more stoppers

I do not even drive and I cannot change a tire, I would have asked to my husband to stop to ask you if you wanted that I call for help.

If it looked like the person was coping alright, probably we wouldn't have stopped. There are so many warnings nowadays about not stopping and we're just about too old and not strong enough to be of much help. If was someone old, a mum with kids we might stop to see if they needed a phone or whatever. In a previous lifetime, we almost always stopped to help out and/or to pick up hitchhikers.

It's a sad world we live in today, but kindness can get us killed. So, the answer is no. That's a job for the police to assist motorists in distress. I'm going to keep trucking. lol

@BACONSTRIPSXXX lol. So long as it guarantees my survival, I'm happy with being cold as cold can be. But I am glad a good Samaritan found you, and you weren't a serial killer. lol
