Does Islam really oppress women?

Islam is ok with women, only the islamists are oppressing women. I hv heard some countries like Afghanistan are good example for this They were refused education, employment and voting power and many rights...

No Islam never ever oppress the women. It was the islamm.... more than 1500 years ago... gave respect to women.... make it the active part of the society... 1500 years ago...Islam stressed for the educaion of woman.... Islam told the world that woman is as respectable as man... that islam gave the women its right as daughter, as sister, as mother, as wife and as member ofthe society...

Hey friend. Its not that Islam opressess womens. I know that there are some restrictions over women, but they are all for their good. And not only womens but even mens have many restrictions. As for women has to wear a Burkah and hide her body from other mens, something of the same kind applies to mens too. Mens in Islam have Burkah for their eyes. No muslim men is allowed to look at a unknown women. And regarding 70% of women's conversion to Islam. I would like to say that, these may be the females who studied Islam and found it beneficial for their lives. As if a women exposes her body, one does not love her... but love her body... and many a times this is the reason for increasing rape cases. But if a women wears Burkah this is less.... U tell me whom would u stare a girl with a MINI SKIRT or one wearing a Burkah....

Islam does not oppress women,whoever say it is misguided and frankly don't know much about islam.This is a big problem with all of us because we think that we know everything but infact we don't but we still start commenting on things which we don't know much about.So beware of the authenticity of anything you read be it in books,mags or net. Comming to the topic i would say that islam set a pattern of rules which should be followed by human beings because it is beneficial for them.Islam is the only religion which gives the woman to keep property,choose for herself,elevate the woman to her true stature.In islam it is said heaven lies in mother's feet.What else can i say about women rights in islam.

I really dont think that Islam oppresses women. Its the work of ignorant people that has caused the popular notion about Islam being against women.
