OK. Don't get me started here. If people that get pets and all breeders were responsible there would not be pets in pounds and kennels to start with.
I was a cat show/breeder. I bred my cats to confirm to the standard for their breed and petted out those that did not, and a big majority of those that did (if they were't sold for showing and/or breeding purposes to another responsible show/breeder.
Those of us that are responsible, do not make money selling these animals. We do not even break ever. What do though, we make sure our animals are healthy. We have them tested for every disease under the sun. We guarantee if they get sick that we will take them back and replace them with a healthy pet. Most of us insist on having a pet we sell back if the owner finds they just can't keep the pet for any reason -- even 10 years down the road -- no matter what.
When you get a pet from a pound or kennel, you do not know what you are getting -- it may be sick or have a genetic disease. it may be free then, but you pay far more down the line.
