i have been dating a gal sheer out of sympathy because of her tragic past, but the wavelengths dont match and i want to break off, but she is too atttached to me, canone give me fair ideas, where i would be able to without hurting her.

It sounds like if you're only with her out of sympathy it's not being fair to either of you. I know you want to break up with her without hurting her, but sometimes that is impossible. It's probably better just to be honest with her that you are not right for each other and you want to move on.
