need advice

i have been in a marriage for 6 years. it is the old got pregnant got married story. he has slowly gotten more and more verbally abusive towards me and the children. he has even started hitting walls and threatening our 5 year old with a belt because hes mad. i tried to go to socal services for help but he went with me. he listens to phone calls keeps the window open to know if i leave and now wants me to sign my car over to him. i want to grab my kids and run. i have a safe place to go. but if i go i have to really go because he threatened to kill me if i took his kids. the problem i have is that if im going to leave with my car it has to be this week. but i have a 16 year old in all these college prep classes and hes got midterms all the week after. any ideas?
