If you like C++ you could do a web site in ASP .NET with C#. That's very similar to Java and C++. Also, PHP, ASP, all those are good.

I don't quite agree with "iambeauty". You can program server-side scripts in c/c++ using CGI(common gateway interface). Cause CGI lets you program in any damn language of the world. But programming the cgi at the root level could look a bit tough if you don't want to go into complexities. To make tasks simpler, there are various libraries available both for c and c++.
If you want to have a knowledge of CGI then its good and you should go ahead with CGI otherwise just learn PHP,HTML, CSS and JAVASCRIPT and you could make websites that rock.

Well I know to program in C++. But being an engineer currently I work mostly with Matlab. It also requires programming but the concept is rather different from other languages.

I would like to discuss about programming...I used to be a die-hard C/C++ programmer before getting into my job....Now I work on JAVA and related web technologies...I see a lot of differences between all these powerful languages...Infact I've been looking out for a community where I could admire or criticise proramming languages features....good to join you all.

Hi There,
Its good enough if u have basic knowledge C/C++ to start off as a Java Programmer. If you are looking for a good stuff/ tutorial to get off with the basics and a decent level of expertise, I would suggest you " Head First Java ". The content in this book is wonderful that a normal person with fair exposure to programming can easily grasp the intricacies and architecture of Java. This must serve you as a lunchpad. Happy javaing :)

Well I am very much interested in programming. In fact i have started a few discussions about my various programming doubts. But unfortunately, I have not received any responses for any of them. So all I could decide is probably that there are not many computer programmers around here. But I do see that there are some enthusiastic programmers. So please do go to my profile and answer my doubts. It would be of a very great help to me. Thanks.

Hi,
The best to way to startoff is by having some basic knowledge of computers and the languages. In my view, for any programmer, C is the start off point. The language is so beutiful, yet very powerful, that you 'll start appreciating the real crux of computer technology. From basic programming to advanced stuff like system programming, interrupt handling etc are all available with C. For you, I would recommend Turbo C++ / Microsoft VB / C++ as a start off point. Start by writing small pieces of code, then get into not-so-complex kind of programming. Keep thinking of problems and the ways you would resolve them using your fav lang....Keep up the consistency and you will definitely master the art !!!!
