I believe that adopting children in foster care is selfless. I dont know about a couple adopting babies because they cannot have there own. I know many who wouldve rather had their own children but adopted and they loved them as their own. I thought about being a foster parent but i couldnt give a child back i would love them too much and would want to adopt them and be heartbroken if i couldnt.

I'm unsure, I think it's an act of love wanting to give a child a loving home. Off course it's also an act because you want to have a child, so you could consider that selfish; but in that case anyone trying to get pregnant would be selfish too considering there are children in need of foster care or adoption out there, and they want to have a child of their own anyway.
Humans are social animals, like some other mammals you see in nature adopting the offspring of other animals (sometimes not even their own breed!) and bringing them up. So it's something quite natural.
