I have a 5 quart crockpot. I don't use it often, as we really don't care for the way food tastes in there. However, one of my dear friends on MyLot gave me a receipe for walnuts and sugar in the crockpot. That was great.

I made a whole chicken. It was soft, it wasn't any better than baking. I've made meat and ham. Again, no better than the oven. However, the ribs were excellent, soft and good.

Tis true that an overcooked chicken can be unpalatable, however perhaps you did not follow a recipe. I seek to understand, however I am aware that there are different tastes among us. I agree about the ribs, I absolutely love them in the crockpot!! Thanks so much for responding once again.

Not sure what difficulty you had. Am curious as to what you made and how it turned out and therefore what you disliked about it. As in all things it is not meant for everybody!

I use my crockpot a lot. My husband just put some chicken in it. the chicken is so tender when it's all done.we both work so this is a fast way to have your supper done when you get home from work.I made a ham and turkey in it and it turned out sooo good.

We love ours too. One I got from the freecycle group I belong to and my new one I found when walking the mall near my Mother's house. I checked on line and found that the mall was cheaper so I sent my money to my Mother and she picked it up for me. It is wonderul and we have never had a bad meal from it. Glad you use yours too.

My Dad bought me one for christmas a couple years ago and I don't now how I ever lived without it. It is so handy when I have to work. I'm not sure on the size of it. Some of our favorite things to cook in it are chili, chicken stew , beef stew and roast beef. My kids love everything that comes out of the crock pot, lol.

Hi Willowlady!
My hubby and I "dicovered" a new recipe that we'd like to share with you..:)for the crockpot. Ours is med. size. We use it at least once a week.
cook cheap pork or beef ribs in the pot with pork and beans for 8 hrs. on low...I promise you they will fall off the bone..:P
1.First put the pork and beans in the pot.
2.Cut up your ribs in sets of 2 ribs each.
3.Pour your favorite BBQ sauce over the top as much/little as you want.
4.Cook for 8 hrs. on low.
5.ENJOY!

I use my crockpot a couple times a month and use it more now that there are crockpot liners, which make cleaning easy. My favorite food that I like to make is chicken soup, which I make anytime somebody isn't feeling well or just needs some comfort food.

My crockpot is 6 qts and is one of my favorite appliances. I use it all the time to make all-in-one meals, chili, spaghetti sauce, chicken and yellow rice, and so many other meals. My favorite is this one:
6 cube steaks
flour to coat steaks
salt and pepper for seasoning
2 cans diced tomatoes (plain)
2 cans diced tomatoes (with roasted garlic/onions)
4 stalks celery diced
Coat steaks with flour and add salt and pepper to taste. Brown in skillet and set aside.
Add 1 can plain and 1 can "flavored" tomatoes to bottom of crock pot. Place 3 sauteed cube steaks on top. Add half the diced celery sprinkled across the top. Repeat process with remaining tomatoes and celery.
Cook on high for at least 4 hours. Serve over rice. It's absolutely delicious and it's one of my husband's favorites. Since it's only the two of us, this will be two meals for us.

I make many of our meals in a crockpot. It is one that cools down to keep it warm after it has cooked. I can hold a good sized chicken or roast. How wonderful is it to come home after a long day to a home cooked meal waiting for you when you walk through the door. Love my crock.

I do not utilze it as often as I used to. They don't make them big enough.
I have seven kids and as they got older, it didn't fit as much as I need it to.
But I still use it from time to time for making beans. But that is about it.
I used to love making chicken cacciatore!!! Awesome stuff!

I'm not sure what the size of my crock pot is but its small compared to some I have seen. I don't use it very much anymore but I like to use it to make meatballs in sauce. They come out so good that way. Somewhere on here I posted a recipe for the crock pot. here it is in case you don't want to search for it.lol, That is probably the best tasting thing I ever made with my crock pot.

I used to use the crockpot a lot but since our kids are older and eat more it is not big enough to feed us all. I got it when I was single and just got a small one that fit my needs. It also is not used much because it is hard to clean. We have been looking at the the big new ones with the removalable crock for easy cleaning.

Yeah, I have an older solid one and then a new one that the crock is removable. I like them both and if I get them both going there is a complete meal with a minimum of fuss. We are 4 so that works well for us.

Crockpots are the most used small appliances in my home. I use one almost everyday to save time in the kitchen. One of them is a six quart, which I use the most, and the other one is four quart.
The best thing I have ever made in mine is a cake, yep a cake, and at least every two weeks. It's moister than baking, tastes better, and saves tons of energy. I haven't tried baking a pie in the crock pot yet but I plan to soon.

I have a crockpot for 5 years. I am not especially fond of it, nor is my husband. It is 5 quarts. I have tried numerous things, beef, pork, chicken, nuts, ribs, chilli, and shrimp. The food is always stringy. We liked the ribs, but they can be just as good on the grill or in the oven. Chickens taste better roasted as the skin gets browned. I don't use it much, as I said, we are not crazy about it. I have 3 cook books, and have tried about 75 dishes. I used it 3 days again, for a pork roast and veggies, and again, we didn't go for it. Would you like my crockpot?

Sure send it to me....lol.. You could join the local freecycle group and offer it there and then be able to ask for something you need. Or give it to your church and see if they can use it or find it a new home?! Sorry you do not care for the results. So many of us do! Thanks much for responding.

I have a 4,5 & 6 quart crockpots, but we use the 6 the most. Starting October through April, we use the 6 quart at least once a week, the 5 about twice a month, the 4 on occasion.
We make soups, stews, chili, jambalaya, gumbo, bisques. Nothing has ever turned out bad.
My all time favorite is chicken soup, so usually we alternate chicken soup with something else. I have a freezer full of meals that we froze from the crock, so we always have a good variety of food to heat & eat.

We just recently bought one. My husband uses it, as he is the cook in the house. We've made chili twice, still working on ourm favorite recipe there. And he also made Shitake Mushroom Soup. That was really good! The only problem is, it's just the two of us, and we'll fill that pot with chili, and end up not eating it all. And I hate wasting food!!

I have a big one, it's a little older but work's great! I love to cook those ready to make crock pot meals in it. As of now though I don't really use it much. Have any good recipes for crock pots, that would be awesome. I would love to make sour beef and dumplings, can't seem to find a good recipe for that. I love to read all the stuff you post, very interesting!!
