Why is it that most girls are so obsessed with being slim?

Girls as early as in their teen years suffer from eating disorders which causes certain health problems. What really is it about being slim? WHy do most artists prefer to have skinny bodies than a figure that's good for them? What really is it about being thin?

I think that media is the biggest guilty part on this "slim-mania". It is a social convention that people that are slim are considered more atractive, beauty, etc. It is good, in my opinion, to be thin, but not too thin, that is where the problems begin.

Most girls in their early teens suffer from eating disorder because they think that they would look good and beautiful being very skinny. And i think it is also because of the influence of the tv celebrities or personnalities which a lot of girls really look up to, they would usually want to look like or follow the style of their tv idols and push themselves to the limit which really end up causing health problem to them.

Well, seeing slim women all over the media is a lot of pressure. Also, some women think men prefer the slim ones. That's a lot of pressure, too. We get the idea that slim's the way to be and some will go to extremes to get that.
