One of my favorite authors is John Grisham and one of his first best sellers was The Firm, which was also made in to a movie. Many times the book is better then the movie. I have to say in this case I loved both the book and the movie, both very exciting!!

I can think of lots of these lol I think the first book that was a movie that I really enjoyed was Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin (?). I have also loved Stephen King's The Shining, 'Salem's Lot, Carrie, and It. Those are the ones that come to mind immediately, but I know there are more.

The one that comes to mind is the Green Mile by Stephen King. I read the book first and was very surprised at how much I liked the movie. Usually one or the other is better and often it is the book

One of my favorite books and movies is To Kill a Mockingbird. Another choice would be The Manchurian Candidate (the original, though I also liked the remake with Meryl Streep and
More recently, The Accidental Tourist.
I'm sure there are ones I'm forgetting, maybe I'll post them later if I think of them...

I really really like The Davinci Code. I read the book first, and thought it was great, and then I saw the movie, and it was pretty good as well! The book was definitely better, because it had way more detail and more history, which is important to the story. And the movie changed the ending slightly, but it was still good.

The only one I can say that I have liked both the book and the movie, would be Harry Potter. But upon seeing the movie, I was still disappointed that they left Dobby out...he was actually in a bit of the book and really the one that gave Potter the Gillyweed.
Any other books turn movies, I was disappointed. But I have not seen everything spoken of here in this discussion. I don't watch a lot of tv.

I agree with Brokentia. I liked the Harry Potter books and the movies. The only thinks I don't like about the movies is they had to leave stuff out and some things they changed around. But they were still good movies.

I love James Patterson's books and Along came a spider with Morgan Freeman was really well done. I think kiss the girls is also a movie.

For me the great book that made it into the movies was "Gone with the Wind", even though it is a sad book because we lost our freedom when the Confederacy lost the war. I remember leaving the theatre as a child crying after the movie had ended.

I generally as a rule do not like movies if I have read the book first. I find that they leave a lot out or change things to make them more dramatic in the movies. If I had to choose one though I would have to say James and the giant peach or Willie wonka's chocolate factory.

The one that leaps to mind is The Godfather. Everyone has seen the film, and rightly so, but the book is just as good.

My absolute favorite would have to be the Notebook, it is such a great book I have read it several times and I was so excited when the movie came out, I went & bought it the day it came out on DVD & saw it in the theater twice lol. My 2nd would be A Walk to Remember, although I have to say I saw the movie first and it was so good I researched it and found the book, I had never read anything by Nicholas Sparks before, now I can't get enough of his literature :)

I thought both the book and movie versions of The Princess Bride were good. I think the author of the book wrote the screenplay, so that might explain it. Both were funny and romantic, and all of the changes made in the movie made sense. Sometimes the changes don't make sense at all, and that always bothers me.

The classic, Gone with the wind. But, the movie was not near as good as the book was. I saw the Firm, and liked the movie better than reading the book.

There are two that come to mind
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants & Carrie
I think both did well in keeping in tune with the other.
Usually the book is so much better then the movie.

catch me if you can. this was a great book and movie based on a true story. if you like the movie you should really read the book. he did some very cool things that did not make it in to the movie. probably one of the best books i have ever read
