Kingdom of Loathing rare item algorithms - specifically the hypnodisk

I've heard that many people can farm at the gate for like 100 turns and poof - they get a hypnodisk. I've spent thousands of turns there over the years with no luck. Lately I've been wondering what is better:
1. To wear as many item-dropping clothes/accessories as possible including item drop buffs, potions and food?
2. To have over 10,000 turns - whether they mean combined life or the current run?
3. To figure out if the hypnodisk adventure is combative or non-combat? This way I could use the correct buff to either get more of that specific type of adventure and still load up with my item-drop gear?
I don't know. I've also read that there is like 1:1000000 shot at a rare item. Does anyone out there have any hints or suggestions? Thx.

The hypnodisk drops from a Hypnotist at the gate. If you beat the Hypnotist you are assured the disk, though if you lose you get a consolation ribbon (as with any of the ultra-rares.)
The algorithm for the appearance of the monsters was determined around January 2006 (I believe it was around then, don't hold me to that). It used to work that every character has a 1 in x shot of getting an UR (ultra rare) monster to spawn per turn. If you're adventuring in one of the locations with a UR monster, it was set up so that the likelihood of that adventure occuring was low compared to others, even if it was your special turn. So there are three factors going into it.
You have to have your turn going, be in the right place, and get the adventure (which was a low shot at it). Of course, Jick never let out what that "x" was for your turn.
However, this was figured out, so Jick decided it was too easy to get URs and has changed the system. If anyone outside the dev team has figured out how it works, they're mouths are shut.

I haven't been to the forums too much lately so I haven't heard! Wow - lucky or something!
As far as the dork thing - I feel like a total geek whenever I admit I play a MMORPG. But KOL is just too funny. I had my best friend hooked on it for a while and she's a girlie-girl just like me. :P

Remember that guy who was just picking up hypnodisks like the snap of a finger?
I wish I was an uber mathlete and could figure this stuff out.
...*snorts and pushes her eyeglasses up her nose*, sorry, I just felt like a huge dork saying that.

What is a hypnodisk?
I have no clue what you are talking about.
I even looked up hypnodisk in the dictionary and it does not find that word.

Wow! You seem to be pretty angry about something. Sorry. I was not insulting you...merely asking. I enjoy learning and thought you would be more receptive.

I thought my question title was very clear. If you don't play the game then just don't worry about it.
I remember you because you got snotty with me on my Japanese question the other day. Like you were the language/mylot police or something. Oh and ^ means "to the power of" in a factoring equation. I noticed that you tend to give others a hard time about subjects you are not familiar with as if we are messed up for asking them. If you don't understand someone's question here then please move on. :\

I haven't gotten a hypnodisk myself. I don't have that many rare items. I've only ascended once with my main character, even though I've beaten the NS twice. I'm working on the level 30 trophy, then I will ascend again. I'm at level 22 or 23. I'm not too sure right now. It's been a long day for me already. I want to know how to get the IDMG (incredibly dense meat gem) and I'd like to get the iotm this month. I'd better hurry though, seeing as it's almost the end of the month.
