I have been volunteering with the mentally and physically handicapped now for 5 years. I am 20 years old and hope to become a special education teacher. I know the money is not good, and it takes a lot of patience, but it is my dream. I have such a passion to help people and I believe that is what gets me through those rough days. Actually seeing progress in students is an all time high for me. With that being said, if Special Ed. teachers do not have a drive and the passion like I do, why get into this career? I've seen many teachers basically lose their minds while trying to teach these students. I've heard many teachers say ridiculous things, like, "There's really no point, they will not ever succeed." TEHN WHY ARE YOU TEACHING?!!?! I have seen these students accomplish so much within the years and to say they will not ever amount to anything is assanine!! What is your take on this subject?!

I would love it if you were my son's teacher. I think I have one of the others right now. He is 12 and has CP. I am having a time with the school to get them to do things at his level. It drives me crazy!! With the passion you sound like you have, the children will be lucky to have you!!!
