Should some parents give medicine to their children to calm them down?

If the child has a medical condition like ADD or ADHD then it is ok if it is diagnosed by a doctor. But if they just want to calm the child down to get them to sleep and give them medication like benedryl to make them sleepy then I do not think it is ok.

Parents should never give their children medicine that makes them drowsy unless it is prescribed or if the child is sick and needs it. I knew a girl who would give her children Benadryl to calm them down and put them to sleep for the night. I asked her about this when I first found out and she didn't seemed the least bit concerned. She said it was okay it helped them sleep better. I thought it was wrong and I told her so, she just got angry with me and said it was none of my business.

I agree that you should not give children medication just to make them sleepy without the advice of your doctor. On the subject of ADD and ADHD, I believe you must make sure that your child is not having the symptoms because of his/her diet before you agree to the diagnosis of your doctor. Alot of the children on medication have been misdiagnosed because their diet consisted of to much sugar and other artificial ingredients. I believe one should try the natural non-medicated route first, then if all fails seek doctors advice for medication.
