Yeah, saltwater is beautiful, gorgeous, so pretty and fascinating. But they are so darned expensive. The initial costs of a saltwater tank is expensive just to set it up. Then the cost of maintaining filtration, ph and salt levels, conditioner's and food these are all re-occurring costs. We haven't even started with the fish yet. What kind of fish are we stocking? Are they compatible with each other? How much $$$? Oh, yeah don't forget about how pretty that 'live coral reef' and those 'living rocks' are. I heard that if you want to properly setup your coral reef tank, that you need to run it for almost a year with the Live Reef alone, just to grow sturdy enough to live with the saltwater fish.
I think I will stick with my cichlid tanks, they are affordable and adorable. I find most cichlid's to be the saltwater fish of a freshwater species. They are BEAUTIFUL fish almost every species of them.
I cannot afford the upkeep cost and maintaince of a saltwater tank. Although, I have often considered setting up a tiny(2.5-5gallon) one fish tank.
I currently have seven(7) operating freshwater Cichlid tanks these include but are not limited to:
35 gallon(3x tanks)
30 gallon octagon
25 gallon tall
20 gallon long
5 gallon small
I have raised fish for 7 years and haven't gone near a saltwater of my own setup. I find they are only good for guest and visitors, besides tt is easy to clean and maintain my cichlid tanks, no matter what one it is, so I prefer to stick to them.
