Curb Stomped

Me and my buddies got drunk one night, just walking around by my buddies house. Shooting it all back, we were crazy drunk. Eventually we decided to go to the store for some snacks because the store was right by his house. After getting our food we started to walk back to his house to go inside. Like a minute from his house 5 guys come outta no where pullin out their glocks telling us to give all our stuff to them. My buddy, as drunk as he was, refused, they shot him in the leg, and punched him in the head. They put him on his stomach and told him to put his teeth to the curb he still refused, so they kick him in the face repeatedly. Him being a bit dazed, one of them took his arms and lifted him up and slammed his foot onto his back making a whiping motion making his face hit the curb. he got 2 chipped teeth a broken nose and 3rd grade concussion. We reported the guys the next day after we were sober. My question is how can people do this? How can they live with themselves? And why police still haven't caught these guys yet(in general and in our case)?

I have heard a few references to curb stomping, most notably the scene in American History X where he uses it. Is it a real practice? What would the actual results be? I've heard that if you stomp on a guy's neck while he's in that position it will break it (which makes sense). But if you stomp the poor guy's head? I've heard that it will
A) Shatter all his teeth
B) Detach his jaw from his skull
c) Cave in his skull and kill him outright
Which is closest to the truth, assuming that this actually happens?

don't be shocked if the police has done nothing in your case, are hardly seen the the police getting successful in any of these cases. the reason being that more often than not these police officials get their share of revenue from these guys.
don't ever expect that the police will really make any efforts to trace out these people because it will never rather on the other hand they very well know who these people are because they also get their share of the loot from these guys
