My parents travel widely, and I have benefitted tremendously. I got to go to a lot of countries with them. But when I got married 2 years ago, I realised that when it came to packing all by myself, I was quite a novice indeed. We forgot things like swimwear, mosquito repellants, and then regretted it. We finally hit upon the idea of making a general checklist for all travels, and we customize it for each vacation.
How do you handle packing for holidays? Have you ever missed out on something important and how did you manage? What are the must-haves in your travel checklist, if you have one?

Whenever I pack my stuff to go on a roadtrip, I always feel like I am forgetting something. I usually don't have time for checklists, but I do a mental checklist such as pajamas, underwear, socks, shirt, pants, and the bathroom essentials. And then I make sure I have my wallet, insurance information.
The stuff I forget aren't really important, but I'll usually forget a CD I really wanted to bring with me, or my digita camera, which always sucks. I have a tendency to leave my digitial camera behind.

Checklist is the only way to go. Start writing it out a few weeks before you leave. Keep in handy so that if you forget something you can just grab it & add to it quickly!
