How do you find what to reply to on mylot?

This is more of a "whatever floats your boat" question. We can probably come up with other ideas of how to find mylot topics that catches our eye. As for me, I type www.mylot.com into my browser's address bar & log in. Then I look at what the latest discussions are. I'll read whatever catches my interst. Maybe I'll reply, or maybe not. I'm not finished yet. Next thing is I go to see what topics my mylot friends have started or participated in, & I'll try to find something sensible to say whenever one of their topics catches my eye. In the case that it was not started by a friend, but a topic that they just replied to, I'll see what topics the topic starter started. Oh - one of ther thing I do is pick a friend that one of my friends have on their profile at random & see what looks good. Then I move onto another friend of a friend, sometimes being the the different friend of that same friend of mine, other times not.

Hi Krazy normally i start to check my unresolved discussions, and then i go through the list on the left side of the page, discussions ive started, from my friends and so on. when i have a bit more time, i check if there is something interesting. but atm it needs time to go through all these new discussions especially these who try to get higher numbers with silly questions

Yeah - you're a lot like me. I try to wait for two things. One being enough responses, & the second is a long enough period of time before selecting a best response. I have seen some cases where someone chooses the first & only response as the best response minutes after they started the discussion. That tells me that they're not interested in any more replies.

I guess I do it pretty much the same as everyone else. I only go to the topics with no reply when I can't find something else to respond to though. I hadn't thought of adding a friend off of my friends list though, thats a good idea.

I usually start with discussions my friends have started, then I take a look at top discussions and hot topics and then it's fairly random after that. I quite often do what you do and pick someone else from a friends profile and take a look at their discussions. I do try to vary it a bit otherwise I end up just responding to the same people all the time. Really I'll respond to anything that gets my interest.

Lately, I've been randomly picking someone by peeking at my Best Response Discussions list. That was how I found your discussion about the first record bought. Geez - that brings back memories.

The first thing I did upon logging in is to check all who responded to my threads. I make sure to comment back especially if the poster posted a well-thought responses. I also go through all my friend's discussions and respond as well. I have some few friends who love to post 10 discussions within the hour. I will only choose 2 or 3 there as I still need to catch up on the others. I tend to check other user's thread that are familiar to me. I have several one here who are not on my list. But we kept supporting each other's thread too. I also check newbie's and discussion with 0 responses. You will be amazed to see good, quality discussions from them.

Sometimes, the hardest thing is trying to find something with substance (as the MyLot guidelines said) to reply to responses with. The ideas may come within a few moments to days to find a good comment.

Well every once in awhile I just literally go through my friends list to see what new discussions they've posted--even will respond to their older topics and will reply if it's something I can get into ...I find that the e-mail notices help too now so I can keep track of things better

Yeah - a lot of people remind me: CHECK THAT EMAIL! I have a habit of coming in & poking around someplace to see what discussions look good.

The first thing I do is try to find a discussion to respond to from someone who has responded to one of my discussions. After that I check new topics, hot topics, and discussion from my interests. I also check topics that have been started by people in my Friends list.

Hello Krazy Klingon, First I check out my responses and normally reply to those. I feel that by responding back it pushes the topic back on to the mix of current disucssions. Next I check out my friends. I can't do each one daily, but I will normally pick 1 or 2 and check out their topics and look for something that catches my eyes. If I find anything, I will respond with an appropriate answer. Next I choose to go the topics that have no discussions. I do this because it gives someone a chance to get put back at the beginning of the pecking order and maybe gain a few more responses. I also choose to pick topics this way in hopes of gaining best responses. I know a little self serving. If I still have time to kill, I will then check out the hot topics of the day to see if there is anything I want to give my .02 on. Mylot has so many varied topics you can never become bored. I did try for 2 days looking for specific topics and then responded with the same reply to each of the topics because it was relavant, I don't recommend doing that, Mylot gets mad and smacks your hands. Thanks for a cool discussion and good luck picking the best reply.

Well - I do need to get more responses to this before I can select the best response. It can be tough (like another discussion I had started) when sometimes, a certain topic requires practically being an expert in the topic.

Well - better late than never. Uh - I didn't wait so long purposely just so I can say that. However, I have somewhat adopted this method myself, but not always.

Landscape - This is a very beautiful picture that just caught my eye so I wanted to share.
I think that you should try to give a reply to a topic that doesn't catch your eye even as your input could help alot, you should try it I think you will like it.

Well, I've jumped into a few of those myself, & even occasionally replied. If you know something that it seems that someone else doesn't, then it's good to share.

I make sure to keep the notify on of my friends, so I go through my inbox to check what my friends has new as discussions. I make responese for them which catch my interest or in which discussions I can say something. After that I go through some other people's profile to find interesting discussion to respond who give responses to my discussion. At last I go to new discussion, 0 response discussions or recent discussion section to find some nice discussion to respond.

I try to do that but there's not much to say if a person writes about the weather or how sick they feel or how much coffee they're drinking.

I will reply to my friends discussions 99 % of the time, in fact I do not have much time to find topics from other people. I can get an interesting discussions from my friends easily as they always start high quality discussions.I enjoy it..:)

You're lucky. I see so many discussions about the weather or coffee or feeling sick that I just skip right over those, what could I possibly respond with to most of those.

That sounds like a suitable way to work round MyLot, I usually check if anyone has replied to a response I've given and reply if necessary, then look at other discussions my friends have started then if time go to others from no-one in particular, sometimes just jump to people who have already responded to the discussin I'm looking at. I don't usually look for specific topics, but there's also a bit at the bottom showing similar!! discussions to the one's I'm looking at and if any look suitable I'll go to them as well.

At the time I had started this discussion, it was much harder to find decent topics to reply to. Since then, they started the friends list, & added that "Discussions my friends Started" list. However, some of the good discussion starters are constantly going on vacation & less discussions have been started by my friends. I actually nowadays go into my Best Response list, choose someone who gave me one of those & start a stalking spree & rabid response rampage.

A later response was also an idea - looking for discussions that havve no responses. You might just find a few good, but old ones there.

I usually answer as many friend's ones as I can but I want to broaden a bit my horizons to help other Mylotters too, especially I hunt for 0 responses, the moldy old ones that have been sitting in mylotter's files for days, weeks or even months, I spotted and killed two 0 responses from one person's file this morning and they were over a month old, how sad is that?

I have also found some good discussions that had sat around waiting fro a response for months, & responded to those. That was also how I managed to end up with another friend.

I usually go to friends section first. Then when I'm done with that I go to discussions with no replies. Then new user discussions the I go to the top discussions. Then i go back and answer comments on my discussions.

It does seem that almost everyone starts with discussions started by friends. Sometimes, after I find that I no longer have the patience to hunt through my friends' discussions that I did not already respond to, I go hunting through one friend at random. This is why I seem to be silent for a few days, & then someone may find that they get several responses from me.

My routine is about the same as yours. I always try to look at a new profile from a friends site or from a post that I read that I am impressed by. I think that is a good way to find new discussions and an easy way to possibly get new friends.

I look at the 'friends started' and 'no responses' tabs first. If nothing too interesting there, I go to 'today's top' or 'hot' or 'recent' or 'new'. That's for discussions to respond to. But first I check out my discussions for responses and discussions I've responded to for responses to the responses to the responses...

Lately, I have been doing things differently from one mylot visit to another, & there is no longer a set pattern for me. Lately, I have been trying to jump-start songs annoyingly playing in people's heads.
