"One Fine Day" is a popular song, written in 1963 by songwriters Carole King and Gerry Goffin, which has been covered by numerous artists since it was originally a hit that year for black girl group The Chiffons. The narrator of the song is in love with a boy who doesn't seem to know she exists. However, she is confident that he will one day fall for her when he's ready to settle down: "One fine day, you're gonna want me for your girl." King and Goffin originally intended the song for Little Eva, who had had a #1 hit the previous year with their song "The Loco-Motion". However, they were reportedly unhappy with the way Little Eva's version turned out (see http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=1229), and so the song went to the Chiffons, who were coming off a #1 hit with "He's So Fine." The Chiffons' version went to number five on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 29 on the UK chart in 1963. Of the many cover versions of "One Fine Day", the most successful was by Carole King herself; it reached #12 on the Billboard charts in 1980. The song had also charted at #66 the previous year for Rita Coolidge. In 1996, "One Fine Day" became the title song of a movie starring George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer. The movie's soundtrack included two versions of the song - the original hit version by the Chiffons and a slower-paced cover by Natalie Merchant. Other versions of "One Fine Day" were recorded by The Carpenters (as part of the oldies medley on their album Now and Then in 1973), S Club Juniors, and The Nylons, among others.

Actually it was Little Eva who had the hit with The Locomtion, not the Chiffons. I don't think the Chiffons recorded the song. The Locomotion was also a hit in later decades; it was covered by Grand Funk Railroad and Kylie Minoque.
