My Dad was just diagnosed with cancer

I'm a 35 woman, close with my mom but dad and I have never really been close. So he has cancer, prostate, and I don't want to see him. Not because I don't love him, because I do. I just don't know how to respond or react. Our relationship is tense all the time. How do I put my feelings about our relationship aside so that I can be there for him and my mom?
PS. He hasn't put his feeling about me aside.

I'm sorry to here of your father. How early was the diagnosis? I think that you should get close to your father, one day it may be to late, and then you will wish that you had gotten closer, and you may regret this. Take the first step today.

I wish I could give some good advice, but I can't on this one. I'm actually going through the same situation.
I just wanted to say good luck with everything, and my condolences.
