Being a new mommy and choosing to stay home with my son, I thought, what better to do with my time then to start my own buisiness. I want to do something where I make candles, lotions, and perfumes and make gift baskets with them. What do I need to do to get started??

I personally wouldnt want to make candles and lotions with a newborn in the house unless you are sure they are safe products. My home business is with a wellness company and the things you learn are astonishing! It also sounds dangerous to be boiling candle wax with young ones but if its what you want to do then good luck with it. If your interested in another homes buiness then check out www.WorkatHomeUnited.com/CindyT or you can also find great work at home businesses and jobs on www.WorkatHomeCareers.com. And I agree, check out Wahm.com, Lots of nice info and people there!

I'm pretty sure I would be a little safer with it then you obviously think I would be. My son knows he is not allowed in the kitchen and I am always in eye view of where he is. I tried wahm.com and didn't like it. thanks for the reference though.

A woman down the road makes the best scented wax bears and other animals and she has a good business selling them. They sell from $6.00(small size) up depending on size. So this would be something to look into. I have thought of getting into the candle making business also but it is in the back burner right now till I get enough money saved to start.

Yeah, money always becomes an issue doesn't it? I have had this idea for a few years, and had I started saving back then I probably would have enough to get started by now. Oh well, I'll start now! lol

Great minds think alike. Over the past fe days I have decided to start up my own gift basket business and to cut costs have decided to make my own bath salts, bombs, butters, lotions, etc. I have just finished compiling over 10000 recipes for these products and am currently trying to figure out how to sell this- where and how much for. But since we;re mates drop me a line and i can email you some to help you get started... :D

You know, I have noticed on Ebay that a lot of people are starting their own business and auctioning their products there. That may be a good start for you.

That's what I am doing. However, after I have my own business I will still come to mylot. This is the only place I can have an adult conversation. It is impossible in my home, and I don't get out much now that I am not working. Thanks for the response!

to start with any business, you need to do some research and pencil-pushing. of course you need a budget and an action plan to know the costs and other business requirements. but starting something that you're really interested in is a good way to start, coz enjoying what you do is the best consolation however your business would turn out. so do some surfing to know the potential suppliers, competitors, and the market. then deal with the numbers so you'd know how much capital you need and the expected ROI. goodluck :)
