They are getting ready to pass the Non-Smoking Ordinance in our state in most restaurants and hotels, I, being a non-smoker think it is GREAT and long time overdue but many of my friends are really against, especially the bars, which owners feel they will lose business, but I visited New York where it is already implemented and I don't think business has changed at all, what about your state, what do you think?

Being a non-smoker I am happy that there are hotels, bars, restaurants that are non-smoking, but I think that an ordinacy is a little over the line. If the owner of the establishments wants to allow people to smoke in there place they should be allowed to.
I think it should be more on the individual, if I don't want to go to a place that allows smoking I just don't. I don't see why we need laws to implement common sence.

I don't think I could have said it any better myself!
So I am going to have to step down and just agree with medooley.

My thoughts exactly, I LOVED it when I went to New York and they had already implemented so I can't wait for it to come to Texas and let us live a bit longer without smoke filled rooms

I am living in NYC and I do love clubbing but the place where I usually go is not allowed to smoke at inside of club.I do get a heardache when I stayed at a smoky room for a while.
I think it is a great thing and good chance for smokers who want to quit.
Smoking is not good for your health and who you love anyway ;)

Bars here have been smoke-free for a couple of years. It hasn't hurt business, because only about 14% of people in this city smoke.
If smoking didn't cause harm to others, I'd think it would be OK to have it in some establishments, but serving staff should not have to be exposed to that level of smoke just to make a living. Even if they smoke themselves, they're getting all that extra pollution in their lungs from the people around them in the bar (on a constant basis), and increasing their chances of getting lung cancer faster.

it's great but in my country, i don't think so if they have an ordinace like that. only i know in davao city in philippines, if you are in the highway and if you want to smoke go to the smoking area if dont they caught you and put you on a jail or they give you a bill.

i think people should have a choice i don’t think the gov. should tell you when and where to smoke i in fact do not smoke and i am quit an anti-smoke person its not allowed in my house but i feel in public places there should be a place for the non-smoker and the smoker in those type places.

I myself am a smoker and I see both sides of this. I can understand why the Ordinance is being put down. I won't even smoke in my own house because I don't want my son breathing it in. So, I can understand why so many want this to happen. I personally won't smoke inside a resturaunt or hotel for that reason. I'm not going to do it with my son, so why would I with others lives you know? I just go outside and away from the building if I feel it neccessary to smoke at the moment. I don't know if this would hurt business or not. I mean, like I said, I smoke outside anyways so it is no different for me. However, there are a lot of smokers that don't see it that way and refuse to go outside. It can go both ways I suppose! Good topic!! Thanks for bringing it up!

I am a non-smoker and I think think the non-smoking ordinance is great! Ive read that the businesses in my town have not seen a change in business since this was passed. I love being able to go to a restaurant and not have to smell smoke the whole time you are there.

My state recently passed this law. As a smoker, I was initially upset by it but as i thought about it, i felt it was actually a good idea. The bars and restaurants were so worried that they would lose busines...they have been doing just as well as they were before. Yeah - you have to go outside now. But so what? It didnt change anything. The bars got over-loaded with smoke that, most times, my friends and i would go outside anyway. At least now, the non-smokers can enjoy themselves without going home smelling like us smokers! :)
