I would not have aplogized. He was quoteing someone who lived inthe 14th century. Once he said the quote, they fire bombed churchse, almost like they wanted to prove what he said.

sedel1027 : I agree with you on this one. I would also add: they have a hard time taking criticism or questions of their religions. They lash out in violence everytime like some freakin adolescent cavemen instead of being civilised people. If they were so confident and strong in their religeous beliefs as they claim to be, they would just ignore such comments. (or cartoons) And consider them ignorant. It's like children who have not yet been taught that 2 wrongs don't make a right and ignoring untrue comments is better and more effective than hitting the other person. They have no guidance although they feel they do and that is scarey that they are so apt to lash out instead of speak out.

Pope can not change the history. I supose, he only tryes to accept that great errors in that time, and sometimes in the present, are only that: ERRORS, and those are nor the essence of the lessons of Christ.

Its not a question of an apology or another hatred comment. It is related to the sentiments of a community then as the leader of the big community the Pope himself should not have made any comments against any other community. Being a religion leader he must not initiate such controversies. Seeing the delicate situations which have arised after the attacks on Iraq and threats on Iran now the muslim community is very much agitated to see themselves under the threat of US attacks on the basis of their own investigations proving these countries as terrorist countries. A person or a group can be a terrorist but who gave the US administration the authority to state that all the muslim countries are terrorists. Many of the people living there are immigrants as well who might be settled there for some reason or other. So, it is not right to call a whole nation as terrorist because one group is carrying out some terror activities from their base. If the country is supporting the terrorists then it becomes the totally different topic, but till date no body has supported Osama but Taliban now called as Al-Qaida. Terrorist activities will come to an end only with a joint effort thus the Top political leaders should be united and same is the case with the Top religious leaders so that all human beings should be treated with equality.

i think it was an unnecessary comment which would always aggrevate the tension between christians and the muslims and it would really widen the rift...

If you can access the exact words pope used to make the appology go through it carefully. The popes appology was a carefully crafted words that were not an appology at all. Please know the truth.

I think on his part he has done it right. If few people do not understand a statement and think that they are hurt then without carrying the matter futher it is better to say sorry. But one thing everyone should feel that he is no ordinary man, he is Pope. Pope on his part did the correct thing as per any religion. No religous head wants to hit others or show agression. They are all son of god and an icon of peace. But I am sorry for those who tries to destroy chruches.

It wasn't necessary but was definitely a welcome for the Muslims. Too much bad blood's been flowing and it was good of the Pope to acknowledge the amount of suffering for the innocents and this should stop. Saying sorry never hurt anyone and Kudos to the Pope for acting the way he did!

of course it is necessary..to quote from superman with great power comes great responsibilty..so a person occupying such a postition should never have said so to hurt the sentiments of other people...he should respect them

When he quote something from the past, then, it means he calls for debate.

It's not necessary. The truth is the truth. Do you agree the violence with sword?

it is necessary, so that their mistakes can be identified, and they make correct themselves..

No, he spoke the truth, but Muslims are so ignorant of the truth that they riot at the instruction of their Imans, so the Pope has taken responsibility and apologised for their injured feelings so that there might not be violence from the followers of a non violent religion. To apologise even when you are right is a Christian principle

No apology was necessary by the Pope. The truth needs no apology!!! Moslim jhadists ARE an EVIL breed!
