Spell Check

United States

When I was in third grade I almost won the spelling bee. I have never had a problem with spelling untill recently! The cause....SPELL CHECK!! I can not tell you how many times a day I go on dictionary.com to check a spelling! Since the computer is the new brain, everytime I write a letter or email I have to rely on spell check! Is it just me or does anyone else agree? Or am I loosing it?

i encountered the same problem a few years ago. with the help of reading on my spare time and taking spell check off of my toolbar, i have been able to significantly decrease the amount of time i spend on dictionary.com to make myself feel a little better about having to rely on a dictionary, i placed an actual dictionary (made out of paper!!) beside my computer if i ever do need to use it.

We are facing the same kind of situation.Dictionary.com verifies whatever i type into my blogs, comments, forums, emails, etc. The thesaurus of the site is also of great help.Sometimes i just spend my time checking synonyms of a particular word. There are other dictionary sites like merriamwebsteronline, oxforddictionary, etc.,but of all i like this dictionary.com site the most as i have a clever keys installed on my desktop so whenever i need to verify my not-so-sure-of-the-spelling words by just selecting and entering CTRL+L on my keyboard.

I was close to winning a spelling bee in grade school. I had missed one letter. Man, I was angry, but mostly nervous. I go to the dictionary website to check spelling too. Sometimes I'll hear a word that I haven't heard before and I feel compelled to look it up. And that's a good thing because I'm learning something new.
