Do you tip at Starbucks - or anywhere where it's not sit down service?

I always tip when I'm eating in a sit down restaurant, but I don't do it very often when I'm just getting counter service. I feel guilty about it though.
I feel that if I'm paying $4.00 for a coffee, that the staff should get paid enough that tips should not be required.
What are your thoughts?

Well i think that its not something good and several good restaurants discourage this as well. Infact many hotels and restaurants owners do not pay well the service men and thats why they are forced to ask or expect tip. Anyhow i personally feel that it doenst seem like one should avoid professional baggers to give money although thats they more serious issue :). Keep enjoying in restaurants :)

On occasion I have. And only if they're particularly personable, but it's not much. Just change. I try to remember to tip if it's a place where I order at the counter and they bring the food out to you, like a sandwich shop or a Sizzler's (if you are familiar with those) but only about a buck a person.

I do not think that it is necessary to tip when you are getting something at a counter and then go. For me that would be the same as tipping someone when u buy groceries or clothes!

I never tip at places like that. I pretty much feel the same way as you. No tipping for them making coffee. Isn't that what they get paid for? If someone is filling my drink, bringing me food, making sure I have napkins, bringing my bill, cleaning my table...they deserve a tip. If they do it well they deserve a big tip.
