I think Russia lost all their power after the cold war. Financially the country is in very bad shape. America is the recognized power, but again financially America is in a bad way. They both hold veto power in the UN though.
Which brings us to the upcoming powers. China has US$1Bn reserve and increasing each year by about US$200M, which is more than any country in the world. I think they are unlikely to "take control" but they have the financial power. Just as the Swiss and Saudi's do. The Swiss protect the money of the wealthy and the Saudi's swim in what the world needs....Oil.

i will vote for Switzerland. Money is Power & all bank accounts of key people world wide are there & no one dares to attack that country which is managed by only 3400 Police personals only.

Power equals control and control unfortunately needs to be maintained.I would have to say America maintains control at the moment.
Oil/ producing countries like Saudi Arabia have a lot of power because they are very wealthy and have what we need, oil. they havent utilised this power to its full extent as yet.
I think Asia is powerful and may make a power grab at some stage, they have the funds, the people and the motivation because they need more land. Well, that was a negative response.
