I have no problems with kids having cell phones as long as guidelines are set for there use by the childs parents.

too much of anything is bad..similar is the case with mobile phones..even though they are useful in a needy situation..in most cases than not it is not required..but its upto the parents to decide what is good for their child and do according..

I definatly don't think they should be allowed in school, that is a place for learning not playing on the phone, but for times when your child is alone like my child is 10 and goes to spend the night at friends or goes to play outside around the neighborhood, I like her to have her phone then, in case anything were to happen, to many crazy people out there.

I dont think young kids should have a cell. I think they shouldnt have one til they are old enough to have a job to pay for it and responsible for the bill.

I personally don't think phones should even be allowed in school. I don't think kids under sixteen should have cell phones. Schools need new policies where the cell phones are concerned.

I don't think it is cool at all for kids to be taping and posting things like this. As far as the cell phones are concerned, I never had one until this past year no need for it, I am 25. Now that I have one I love it. When I was in High School alot of my friends had them. Our school had a ban on music players of any sort and cell phones, they weren't to be brought on campus. They do have cell phones made specifically for kids now and I think it is great! When my daughter is old enough to go out of the yard alone she will have one just in case something does happen she is 4 now.

I think that if kids are in a sport at school where they have to ride the bus then yes they need a cell phone. But I think that there should be strict rules with the phone.

I am a freebie nut so when I came across a program for a free cell phone with free service I jumped on it. I allow my daughter (12) to use it but only when she is away at a dance or a concert, never for personal use. I don't think kids need cell phones. In a time when kids are so glued to their computers, televisions, hand held game systems, and so on why would you want to give them just another excuse to ignore you and their responsibilities?

I think that young children shold not be given mobile phones for recreational purposes but I think they are a good idea for when they are out and need to be able to contact their parents. I would let children have them but control how they use them by limiting the credit on the phone and making sure you get itemised billing at the end of each month to check the calls they have been making. If they abuse their use then they are taken away. I think they have both advantages and disadvantages and not entirely sure which one outweighs the other!

I like the idea of the phones that are programmed to only be able to call and receive calls for certain numbers. It's a safety thing to be able to reach your child and him/her to be able to reach you. I do think it needs to be limited to older kids.
