I used to do them as a kid, and I did them with my kids when they were little, but I haven't done one in a long time.
When I was little, no one would have ever thought to let us glue a jigsaw puzzle together. We only had a few and put them together many, many times over the year. Parents just didn't buy new things for their kids all the time back then, but we really appreciated and treasured the things we had.

Everyone in my family loves to do jigsaw puzzles! We have a tradition every year that we do one during the holidays on the big dining room table. When my kids were little we used to glue them together too for wall 'posters.' Sometimes we'd make a simple table frame and make a little table for by their bed or something.
Right now I'm 'hooked' on doing these cool online jigsaw puzzles. They have a huge base of free puzzles to put together with scads of different categories to choose from. Each category probably has about 50 to 100 or more pictures to choose from. You can pick how many pieces you want to do, too. I signed up for their Sunday newsletter and each Sunday they email you 3 new free puzzles to put together on the computer. (It's my Sunday am tea 'thing', lol) There's 2 different styles of puzzles, one's the old-fashioned jig-saw shaped pieces and the other they call old program (which I don't like) The old program style is in squares instead.

This other place has some good Christmas ones for them to try:

I loved putting puzzles together. I have a few that I need to put back together and paste it to cardboard to hang up. I did a few for my boys when they were little. I did one that had several dalmations and a fire hydrant, my youngest picked it out we put it together, then glued it to cardboard and he put it up on his wall. It stayed there for a few years, before he decided to pass it on to another little boy that really liked dalmations.

My kids like doing them also. And we will sometimes do the 1000 pieces together. After that, you really want to glue them! It took so much effort, why would anyone want to tear it apart? LOL
But don't buy the puzzle saver to glue them. I don't know if you do or not. But for others just some word of advice. You can buy Mod Podge glue for much cheaper and much larger. The puzzle saver is normally like 4 bucks for a small bottle. But the Mod Podge glue does the same thing and is 4 times larger for 2 bucks!
