Next US President: John McCain or Colin Powell?

Those are my top choices, not that either one of them intend to run, as far as I can tell. I think if they made an independent ticket with the two of them, they would get it. Any other ideas for 2008?

You're a Colin fan too? Yea! Yeah, the GOP is going to be in bad shape unless someone real steps up.

You can just about bet that Johnny-boy is running. Look at it: He's distanced himself from the floundering Bush administration by denouncing the Iraq war back in '03 *before* it was unpopular, which got him in to a decent standing with the Democrats and liberals (including myself). Now this last campaign year ('06), he runs around half the country rallying the conservative base by talking about God and the good old days. There is one thing and one thing only that all this points to, and it's not stinky diapers. John McCain is running for the presidency in 2008, if for no other reason than that the Republicans have no one else who can win.

I've got plenty of stinky diapers around already. My concern is that, like in 2000, McCain won't be able to get past the primaries. I do hope he runs, and I do hope he at least makes it to getting the nomination, because I do think he would be a good president. He's a USNA grad, so we gotta love him. Of course, so is Perot...

Mr McCain is very old isn't he (I understand he'll be 70 at the next election). And Colin Powell is damaged by not preventing Rumsfeld from going to war with inadequate troops and no plan. The American deafeat in Iraq is as much down to Powell as to Bush, Cheney and Rumsfeld.
Why not try someone younger? What about Barak Obama?

Yeah, McCain is getting up, but he's got some good years left in him. He is suprisingly limber for going through what he did as POW. Barak Obama is another good choice. Do you think he could win?
