How do I know if I have a chest cold or Pneumonia?

I thought I had a chest cold but I'm not sure. My chest hurts alot, it hurts when I cough, when I go out in the cold, when I walk up our steps, when I take a deep breath. I'm cold all the time. What are the sign of Pneumonia? Have you ever had Pneumonia? What makes Pneumonia worse?
