I plan on traveling to the the New England States in 2007 or 2008. I have no idea what I want to see or what I want to do except to travel to and thru those states.

I guess that it depends on what time of year you're thinking of traveling and how long you have to make the trip. I'd recommend going in the Fall so that you can take advantage of the leaves changing colors, and spend a few weeks driving up to Vermont and/or New Hampshire. Having spent my college years in the area, I'd definitely avoid the winter because it gets very cold. If you're going in the summer, I've heard that Maine is very beautiful.

I do plan on going in the late summer or early fall. Or so that is my plan a this time. I love the changing of the leave colors. That is why I love the Smoky Mountains too.

Great time of year to travel in these states. When I travel, I like to use the website tripadvisor.com because it has ratings for almost every type of place to stay - big hotels and tiny bed and breakfast places. It also has links for travel guides so that you don't miss out on any of the major attractions in any of the areas, and also links to compare prices for plane tickets. Each review has a date, too, so you can tell how recently comments were made and what time of year people were traveling.

Could you please explain you comment you made? Good one, what? This does not seem to be an accurate comment for my post? If you could explain it further perhaps that would be helpful to me and other who read your comment.

You will want to be sure to schedule your trip for the summer months or early fall so that you can avoid the snowy, cold winter months (unless you want to go skiing, that is). New England is beautiful. My favorite parts are the White Mountains in New Hampshire (Mount Washington especially) and Bar Harbor Maine.

I am not sure what part is a good idea? Traveling to the New England State is a good idea? Or going in the fall is a good idea? Or both?

In the fall you can be a leaf peeper, basically for just the cost of gasoline. There is a lot of history to be seen in every state. There is the home of the Rhode Island Red Rooster--the giant chicken in Adamsville R.I. You want to take advantage of all the coast line and look at the awesome ocean, any time of the year, again, not very expensive. Eat lots of seafood. Sometimes even McDonalds has lobster rolls. Aquariums and zoos, Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut. Shop local crafts, and outlet stores, you can get some good deals on Pendleton wools. I especially enjoyed the topiary gardens in Newport RI called Green Animals. I believe that there are nine mansions to be toured in Newport. I hope you have a wonderful trip. Montpelier, Vermont is very nice to tour.Love the architecture. I have gone a couple of times with my husband, as he did some growing up in that part of the world.

Me too! I want to go to Maine and Vermont and New Hampshire next fall and see all the beautiful Fall colors. I have never traveled up that way but I hear it's incredibly beautiful and the pictures I have seen on TV are just breathtaking.

I just signed up to start receiving a New England States Newsletter. I think that will help me to figure out what we want to do and how much time we will need to complete our journey. If we go this fall as planned, maybe will run into each other. Pleasant Journeys, Ronna

Thank you for telling me about Adamsville. I want to go to Adamsville, I had a pet chicken that was a Rhode Island Red when I was a kid. That would be so cool to say I had lobster rolls at McDonalds.;-) I will add all those places to my list so I can tell my cousin about them. She is going to go with me. I love touring historical places and taking photos of scenic views and historical places and things. I really like architecture. Thanks for all the great ideas.
