How do you get a job when you have a criminal past?

I have been trying to find work for the past couple of weeks since having my fourth child. I can't seem to get past the interview process because of something that I did 6 years ago. I wrote a bad check, it's on my record as a felony. I've had some good jobs since, but through temp services. Now even temp services are turning me down. I am not trying to work at the bank or anything.
I'm skilled in many fields and I can't even work in them because of the felony. And I just graduated in August. Do employers ever stop looking at your past and see your hard work.

Something like this has happened to my friend. You need to be honest and up front when at the application stage and if possible write a short explanatory covering note explaining your reasons for the felony and your regret.

Sometime's we do thing's in our "younger day's" that we wished we never did. It's too bad you have that hanging over you. Hopefully you will find something soon. And when you do, stay with that job.
