Those commercials are discouraging.
One of the most important "secrets" is to drink a LOT of water! You should always have water with you to keep yourself hydrated and cleanse your system. Ideally, room temperature water is the easiest for your body to handle, which kind of defies the 'ice-cold' misconception.
If you're at a restaurant, order hot water & lemon.
Green tea is also very good for weight loss & health in general and can be counted as a serving of water.
Like people have said, excercise is key, as is eating right and balancing your meals. If you have to have treats, eat them early in the day so that you have time to burn them off. And try not to eat after your supper: you'll just end up going to bed with a bunch of extra calories that you can't work off.
Lifestyle changes are also important. Yoga, pilates, kickboxing, etc= all great ideas. You may even want to try something that's not so physically related but you might find is helpful, like feng shui in your home. Best of luck!

I think you shouldn't go in for any pills to reduce weight. They might have harmful side effects.Healthy eating and exercising is what you should be doing.Stay away from fattening and unhealthy foods.Have plenty of fruits and vegetables.Walking is one of the best exercises,according to me,to lose weight.Also check with your doctor whether you have any ailment that is making you put on weight inspite of eating the right foods.

Stress Managment can lead to a healthier weight,
Drink 12 oz of water before each meal,
walking for 1 hr a day straight at your own comfortable pace...
If you like to dance and are healthy enough to dance for 1 hr straight daily... but if its to hard daily at first then try every other day to allow your body stress...
There are many exercises...
Eating a bannanna for breaking waiting and hour then eating other things. I am not sure how this works but I dropped weight doing this.

You can check those out and hopefully they will help you. Diet pills don't work! the only thing they may do is help suppress your appetite and make you hyper...so maybe you'll do some more activity, which is always a good thing for weight loss, but none of them will really help you to lose weight just by taking a pill. Diet and exercise is the only way you're going to really lose weight. Sad..I know..but true, unfortunately. The only way to have lasting weight loss so you don't yo-yo and keep losing and gaining back everything you lost is to not go on a diet, and instead make permanent healthy lifestyle changes that you stick to forever.. a diet implies it's a temporary change in your eating habits in order to lose weight. Once you "go off" your diet, the weight will come back..and then some. lol :O))
