Nasa has launched their latest lunar mission, which plans to build a permanent base on the moon. This is hailed as a competitive step against the space ambitions of China and India. But according to NASA this is a step forward in space exploration and they plan to have people living in the moon.
Is it possible for people to live in the moon?
What is NASA trying here?
From what i can see, NASA is at it again, trying to show that they can do better than the others.
Any other views?

NASA need not show anyone that it can do better because it does not have any competitors. All others are far behind. Someone can say why this is done. In fact is it necessary? The reason people ask this question is because there are so many things beyond our understanding. There are some operations which will be done better in a lesser gravity.
Also these projects give so many innovations which is useful for us in some way or other. When Banjamin Franklin demonstrated about electricity, fellow scientists have asked what use it is to the world.
What if an astoroid moves towards the earth. At least some people will be able to run to the moon and come back.

This was already decided in January 14, 2004, ten days after the landing of Spirit. President George W. Bush announced a new plan for NASA's future, dubbed the Vision for Space Exploration. According to this plan, humankind will return to the moon by 2018, and set up outposts as a testbed and potential resource for future missions. The space shuttle will be retired in 2010 and Orion will replace it by 2014, capable of both docking with the ISS and leaving the Earth's orbit. The future of the ISS is somewhat uncertain — construction will be completed, but beyond that is less clear. Although the plan initially met with skepticism from Congress, in late 2004 Congress agreed to provide start-up funds for the first year's worth of the new space vision.

I believe its possible for people to live on the moon, but we need to do a lot more work before we try. NASA has yet to really impress me, here's why: Unfortunately we've lost 2 space shuttles, the Hubble telescope is constatly under repair, half of our probes we send in space fail prematurely, etc. I don't want to be on that moon base and hear "Danger, oxygen generator malfunction!"

NASA is the best and as far as showing off, who do we need to show off to. If we plan to improve our understanding of space we have to explore it. The lnar station would be an excellent way to learn long term effects of living on a lunar base compared to a space station. One day I think we will be seeing voyages and exploration of the Universe.

NASA is just showing off again. Its like when they filmed the lunar landing in the studeo, so that the competition would stop trying as hard so they could really be the first to the moon.
NASA is trying to do something and they may or may not succeed, but its all just another ploy. Silly NASA
