So I just finished watching Pulp Fiction. I was classifying it as a top gangster movie of alltime! But then I thought is it a true gangster movie? I mean movies like Casino, Scarface, and Goodfellas are true gangster movies is Pulp Fiction one?

I notice all the movies being mentioned are from the last 15 years. Check out some of the James Cagney or Edward G. Robinson gangster movies from decades ago. I also really liked The Untouchables, with Robert De Niro, Kevin Costner, and Sean Connery, dir. by Brian De Palma.

Scarface was 1983, Godfather was 1972. I have seen some of the older movies, but the writing and acting for Scarface and Godfather were brilliant!

Yeah, there may be alot of other good movies back in the day, but I am too young to have seen a lot of them... It's not that I'm unwilling to see them, I just don't have the time...

i love this movie! I think it doesn't belong to a genre, it's itself a genre! quentin tarantino is a genius!

I don't think Quentin has made a bad movie yet!

Um yes he has. From Dusk Till Dawn is one of the worst movies ever made. It has some hilarious moments in it, but it is not Quentin's best work. If it weren't for Selma Hayek I would have never watched that movie, and then she turns into and ugly vampire...what's up with that?

Pulp Fiction doesn't fit into the same category as a Goodfellas, Scarface, Casino, or Godfather. It's still a great movie don't get me wrong, but it is centered more on the violence then on the principles that the mob was founded on. It's one of my all time favorite movies, but to consider it a gangster movie is a stretch.

You don't think that Jewels and Vincente's crew are gangsters? I know it doesn't fully fit the mode as the classics, but they were pretty hardcore...

i've seen pulp fiction thanks to my bf a couple of times. quentin tarantino is like a god to him. i don't thinkit's a ganster film, it might embody some of the characteristics but i believe it's much more intelligent and entertaining than most. although i don't like violence much i did also like true romance. quentin tarantino has a very unique view. the movies i saw were very powerful.

Thanks, I guess I'm hearing more and more votes contrary to my belief that it is! I guess my only question now is what type of genre does it belong in?
