as in Tithes and Offering, why are people not wanting to do so? If you do this willingly, God really will bless you. I am sure many here can share stories of this as well.
There have been many times in my life especially now since I am Married, that we have not had the Money for Food, Gas, etc. and gave in Offerings and Tithes, and god has blessed us. He has set people in our path who have offered us a little extra $$ without really ever expecting anything in return even if they could not afford to do so. I know that was a blessing for them just as in Tithes, as God sees our Good works, and will bless us in all we do.

Tithing is giving back to God 10% of what he has given to us. I always give him his 10% and I don't expect to be given a lot of money back. He will tke care of my needs when I can't. The problem that I struggle with is what my needs are. God and I sometimes differ on what they are. When I give to charity as the salvation army or any orher charity that does the Lord's work that is above the 10% and is given as love

Well, personally I prefer giving to my Church and helping it to grow and reach the lost, but I am glad you give to somewhere, and Yes, GOD is GREAT!!

I believe that we should give what we can afford and for that reason have never agreed to paying a set amount each week, although we have been asked to of course and know many people who do give a set amount, i.e. a per centage of their income.
In my opinion it is a matter of first putting food on the table, then power or electricity, then clothes and then God. So, we can eat, cook, have clothes to wear and if there is anything left then we give what we can afford but we can still pray even if we don't go without all the necessities in life. God will still listen to what we have to say to him because I do not believe that God expected us to starve ourself, live without lights, have no hot water or be in the cold because we gave to him.
People must have priorities in their life and yes God is one of them, but my family is most definately my top priority. God does, and would, not expect me to sacrifice the health and well being of my family for him and this is just what you are doing if you are giving away all your money rather than feeding the family. No, I do not feel guilty about this either.

Why must we give money to prove our religion, i am so sick of hearing how many rewards you will get if you give enough, why should i have to give what i cant afford just to have a fulfilling life, god is not greedy like that, churches are

That is your personal opinion, and actually you are not the only one that feels this way. Tithing in General and offerings has to come from your heart, otherwise you will never do it.

i believe that we should be generous in giving as much as we can and God will reward us back more generously. but of course, being a human in a competitive world, i have to admit that sometimes, i may not give a lot too...but i will try to give as much as i can afford.

I know how it is. But I have learned when I truly take the time to give like I should that is when God tends to bless me the most, and it is Great to see the Good things happen in my life from time to time.

I will say we don't give as much as we should but do our best. I believe you should give to the church but I don't believe in the 10% offering deal. I know God will give to those who give and I believe God loves us all. He has been good to us over the years and I am thankful for that.

God accepted your charity and He gave you reward. I gave US$1000/- to a new non-profit and with this we gave credit to 30 poor women for doing small trade, poultry keeping, goat raring, homestead farming, sewing of ladieswear and gave training of dress making to 25 women too. I help poor people in many ways whatever is affordable to me. But God is not flourishing my business rather it is downing and my income is downing. I think God did not accept my charity and kept it pending!

Well, I always give to my Church first, and then Charities from there. Because God blessed my fruits of my Labor in Church, and then the rest all seems to fall into place it seems for me.

I know what you mean. While we were raising our kids, money was often very tight. However, I always figured at least 10% and gave it to the church. And somehow, we always had enough left to do whatever we needed to do. In fact, we had more after we gave than before and realized that it was due to God's blessings.

Although I have been all over the place with the issue of tithing in my church history, I must say this is what I like about your post:
You give glory to God by pointing out His goodness and kindness.
You give glory to God by pointing out His ability and desire to bless His people, often through marvelous means.
You give glory to God by suggesting the responsibility that Christians have to trust God and give to Him in difficult times.
I know these things are true; even though my life does not often show the same.
Thanks for your discussion.

I fully agree with your view. When it comes to giving to God, one needs to be quite generous. There have been trying times when I have not had enough for other means but was faithful enough to give GOD in the form of Tithes. Not immediately but later I have reaped great benefits from that. God the Living God as HE is sees our heart and our commitment to HIM and rewards us abundantly, well beyond our comprehension.

Great comments, and very true. When you have little, and you choose to give to God, he will bless you back. And it may not be immediately, but it does happen.

It is sad that some people have a selfish spirit. How can you be selfish when God is the one who allows you to have everything that you have. That is sad because I know from experience that tithing is for our benefit. God doesn't need our money. He wants to see if we love him or if we love money. i hope more people make the right choices so they can be blessed.

God is really good all the time if you trust and surrender yourself on Him. For me, I'll give my best to Him as in giving my tithe the best I can. I believe God created us, He is the owner of our lives, everything on us including our knowledge and talents. These is not really our own but from God or should i say that we only borrowed everything from Him and He has the power to get it back in His own time. I'm receiving blessings from the talents He lend me. So I should give what is for Him and spend wisely what is for me.

I say Amen for that nice opinion. I firmly believe in Tithing. In Malachi 3:10 of the Bible, If we give our tithe, He promised abundant life and protection. My testimony: My income is not sufficient for a decent living for my family. I may not give them a comfortable home, a good education and sufficient food on our dining table. But because God provided us everything that we need, I use to give the 10% of my income to our local church. And God provided us a decent home, food, clothing, good health, and education for my children. With my income I cant believe I can shoulder of those financial needs. But God has so many ways in providing for our needs. And I thank Him for that.

I do tithe.....there have been a few times when I neglected to tithe, and things got very ugly very quickly....lol
I've also read (in the Bible) that, if you know you are required to tithe, and you don't, then God will take the 10% plus 10% for your disobedience.
Just a little something to think about :)

I think the problem is that a lot of times people don't relate their successes to God as quickly as they turn to him in times of need. While I sometimes get angry at the Catholic faith for being so "greedy" when it comes to their money and always having a price put on everything they do and perform I can sometimes understand the need to do so. Sometimes people forget WHY they are what they are.

Did God need anything, He is self sufficient, if you show faithfulness Lord will also show His.

You wont gai anything neitehr will you get something from it.
Giving tithes is nothing more but a professional scam that has progressed for centuries and has given the "holy" and "perfect" church infinite wealth and dominion over the world.Lokk at the people who give....they work just hard enough to live well and yet have to give most of their salary away yet their pastors and priests become very rich....What kind of nonsense this is!!!!!!!!!!!You pay them for what????False hopes???This scam must end!!!!!!!!!1
