i go fo AVG as well, the thing i like most about it is that it does not take a lot of time for it to load during startup unlike the other AV software i've used so far

I hate Norton. It came on my last computer and it caused me all sorts of trouble. I learned from people on different websites that it was causing problems with games connecting to the internet and such. At first I didn't care because it wasn't causing me problems. Then I tried to download a game I bought online. I kept getting error messages. This went on for over a week and after consulting people on the message board for the game (many with advanced computer knowledge) I decided it must be the Norton virus blocker. I tried disabling it only to find I was no longer considered an administrator to the program. Huh? There was only one profile on the computer--which was admin and I was logged into it but the dumb program wouldn't recognize me. I was frozen out of the program with no way to get in and stop it. It was set on parental control.
I think someone somehow hacked my computer (using a virus or something). Because it was very strange indeed. I had to go to the Norton site and find a way to manually uninstall it, which I did. After that I got McAfee free from my internet provider, downloaded my game with no trouble and haven't had a problem since.
I was happy to see my new computer came with McAfee and I will use them from now on.

Hi ankush! Norton was my first anti-virus software....
But I see that many of my friends doesn't encourage the use of Norton's Antivirus as it greatly affects the systems RAM or speed in general....
I think McAFee is a small software and thats why everyone recommends AVG as it is also free...
Thanks for your views...

Yes, I think I would have downloaded a trojan from keygen, which Iam not able to heel with AVG, and Iam not able to locate it and manually delete it..
I wonder, if a software could do it for me so that I can be free from viruses/worms & Trojans!:)
Thanks for your response!

I am using AVG Free Edition.. why? because its free to download, and it only consume few memory.I seldom use norton anivirus, because it consume large amount of memory...specially during start-up/boot-up.It's not advisable to use norton for slow computer..If you want to use norton better upgrade ur PC..

I understand that Norton would make my system run slow... But, I am just asking for a software with which I can feel that, my system is safe without viruses... I use AVG free edition now, but I find that there are some trojans always present and cannot be healed at all!
