mba is a programme/course teaches you about various aspects of business.the classroom teaching is mainly limited to ideal situations.
in real life ideal situations seldom exist.
mba can serve as a base.
you have to have thorugh practicle experience basically for selecting best alternatives and decision making.you should be able to gauge/read the mind of other person with whom you are interacting to successfully close the deal.

The scope a degree depends on your application or usage of the same study. If you pursue the study field in getting a career ahead then its a best suitable thing which you can do for yourself. But, if you are wandering around with a degree in marketing in Finance department of a company then no body will entertain you.
The another aspect is of the institute from where you are planning to pursue the course. It should be accredited and reputed one so that you may not have to struggle much harder to get your first job.

I did an MBA and it has been very useful to me both professionally practically speaking (every day budgeting for example). You need to consider the effort and time doing an MBA takes as the programs can be very strenous. If you have the opportunity to do it over a longer period of time or take a sabbatical from work that's preferable.

Although the MBA degree is regarded as a professional degree, completion of an MBA does not preclude admission to a Ph.D. program (unless it is a Ph.D. in a Business Dicipline). Most MBA programs include research, analysis, and statistics course work and also provide opportunities for masters-level writing.
MBAs from universities evaluated by United States National Research Council (USNRC) may equip future scholars and professors. Earning an MBA of this distinction is a milestone of both professional and academic career advancement. Refer to faculty directories of such schools and USNRC ratings.
