Which Dumbledore do you like better and why?

Richard Harris or Michael Gambon?I liked Harris much better. He gets the character much more I think. I think Gambon is wat too aggressive and frankly a bit harsh. Harris was more of a role model and grandfather/father type figure that Harry never had which is exactly the way his character is in the book.
PS - If you don't like Harry Potter - don't post.

Maybe I'm partly biased because every interview I read with Michael Gambon he says something to the effect that all he knows about Harry Potter is what is in the movie script. Considering you have actors like Jason Isaacs (Lucious Malfoy) BEGGING to be in the 7th book shows that he has read all the books, and I dont see how you can really do these roles without reading the books.
Richard Harris is exactly what I picture in my mind when I think of Dumbledore. The quiet confidence, the serene smile, that look over the glasses...Yeah, Richard Harris all the way.

I totally agree you should research a role before you take it on.
Intresting name by the way.

I know. Just doesnt seem like you should be allowed to work on an HP film without first being made to read all 6 books.

I prefer the original actor in Dumbledore's part Richard Harris more than the second actor Gambon. Harris face seems much more natural and suitable for the part of Dumbledore.

When I first saw the movies, the first actor, Harris, seemed to fit the part more with his voice and actions. He was what I pictured DD to look like.

I prefer Richard Harris as well. He was perfect for Dumbledore and did a fantastic job as him. Gambon isn't bad but I agree he's a bit too stern and remote. To be fair though after Harris not sure how I'd judge anyone in the role. Gambon had some mighty big shoes to fill. Personanally I would have loved to see Ian McKellen in the role instead of Gambon. I figure they didn't use him due to his other works but I think he would have been a better choice then Gambon but not as good as Harris.

That is who I would have liked to see have taken Harris place too. He did a fantastic job in LOTRs as Gandolf and the characters are some what similar in the way they act. He would have been my top choice too - darn those X-Men movies! (love those too though - LOL)

Richard Harris is the best.
Michael Gambon is a harsh actor.
Above all, he overacts a lot.
While Harris gave a natural look to dumbledore even JKR admitted it in an interview.Harris had exuberance and energy.
While this new dumbledore seems energetic but he lacks the soothing touch Harris had. He was a natural actor while the present dumbledore lack this.He seems more like a clown to me.

I totally agree with you 100%. Gambon just isn't Dumbledore. He does lack that soothing touch.

I would definitely be with Richard Harris but Michael Gambon is not bad guys. He has also proved himself to be the best suitable character for Dumbledore. If not Harris not body other than Michael could have done this role as better as they have been doing. But of course Harris was the most incredible and no one could do the role as he did.

Harris was the Professor Dumbledore we find in the stories whereas Gambon is General Dumbledore which often doesnt match with the character potrayed in the fictions.
